Crosswalk Designed to Prevent Accidents
Carver 5th grade EAST students partnered with the Innovation Hub to paint a 3D crosswalk in front of their school. The students were assisted by artists from the Innovation Hub, who also held a workshop to teach about perspective, vanishing points, optical illusions and design. They hope this project will help prevent accidents due to the optical illusion of a raised crosswalk.

Otter Creek Elementary Welcomes Junior Achievement

Superintendent Poore joins Junior Achievement representatives Ms. Linda Felton of IBERIABANK and Mr. Evan Jacobs at Otter Creek Elementary. The JA reps volunteered to  teach students financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness skills. Beginning in first grade they learn the difference between wants and needs, while the fifth graders learn how money flows through the community and taxes! #FinancialReady!

Community Collaboration

Community partners from faith-based organizations volunteer their time monthly to read to students at various LRSD sites. We value their investment in our community and our students! ViPS Board Member Denise Persons coordinates this effort along with our @VolunteersinPublicSchools team!

Hall High Students Get Workforce Ready!

Hall High students participated in mock interviews with local companies to strengthen their communications, networking and life skills. Here students are shown receiving instruction and practicing their interviewing techniques with companies such as Walmart and City Year. Thank you to Charlotte Washington for coordinating worthwhile experience and to community sponsor Ron Watson, of the Had2Graduate program, for his career readiness involvement.
