Fantastic News...AVID Students Lead the Nation!
Fantastic news! AVID students in the Little Rock School District outperform students nationally in FAFSA, college application completion and college acceptance.  Data from 2018-19 school year shows the district leading on preparing students for college. last year, 91% of the LRSD seniors participating in AVID completed a FAFSA application, compared to the national rate of 61%. Likewise, 96% of AVIV students applied to a four-year college, and 96% were accepted. #PreparingfortheFure! #PowerofUs!

Bobcat Student Shadows Rotary Member

Dunbar’s James Gray is not only making the grade, but has the support of Hank Kelley, President of the Downtown Rotary Club 99, who serves as his mentor.  The relationship began through a signature project of Rotary which is to adopt a public school.  There are 20 active Rotary members who volunteer in groups to complete Dunbar projects such as painting the lockers and serving refreshments at sporting events. Some Rotary members are mentors, as well. Gray is an eighth grader who made the honor roll and plays drums in the band.  This is the first year that Gray and Kelley have been matched.  Gray is planning to attend college, majoring in music and playing drums in the band. Kelly is shown above being interviewed about his mentor role by Fox 16. The bottom photo features Gray playing the drums with Kelley looking on. Dunbar’s band will perform at Rotary, of which Superintendent Poore is a member, in December. #MarchingtotheBeat #CommunityPartners!

Parkview Seniors Preparing for College

Seniors at Parkview Arts Science Magnet High School participated in College Application Month, a nationwide program to help every high school student apply for a post-secondary degree. Throughout October, the seniors were involved in activities that promoted college and career awareness.  The culminating event for Parkview’s College Application Month was a roundtable discussion by college representatives from five local colleges.  They were accompanied by two Parkview graduates who currently attend their institution. Mayor Frank Scott, another Parkview alum, also made a special guest appearance. The event ended with a Greek Step Show by UAPB sororities and fraternities.
