United States Assistant Attorney General Visits Little Rock Central High School


Earlier this week, U.S. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke visited Little Rock Central High with students at Central High. The conversation was moderated by LRCH senior Shankul Lohakare, also president of the Mayor's Youth Council.

LRCH Student Advances to National Brain Bee


After placing 1st in Arkansas, Aakash Bhattacharyya of Central High School will compete at the National Brain Bee competition at the University of California Irvine Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory! Congrats and good luck on this next phase of the competition, Aakash!

LRSWH Senior Wins #LiveMas
Taco Bell Scholarship


Little Rock Southwest High Senior Lauryn Howard was awarded a $10,000 Taco Bell Live Mas Scholarship! If you keep up with our posts, you should know how ambitious and hardworking this young lady is. Congratulations, Lauryn; we are so excited for you and all your accomplishments.

Parkview Choirs Attended the Music in the Parks Competition in Texas

Parkview choirs took 48 students to the Music in the Parks competition hosted at Midlothian High School followed by a trip to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas. The Festival Choir earned “Superior” ratings from both adjudicators earning 1st place in their category and the highest score overall. Student conductor, Chloee Buchanan, earned the student conductor medal. Way to go, Parkview!

Little Rock West Students and Educator Received Special Recognition

Join us in congratulating Mrs. Helen Strickland, who received the Outstanding Speech and Debate Educator and Outstanding Theatre Educator Awards. Student Isabella Dunkley received state champion for Novice IPDA. Caleb Bowman received ACTAA State 2023 runner-up for Novice IPDA speaker. We are so proud of the hard work!

Mabelvale Elementary Community Movie Night

ViPS 2023 An Evening for the Stars Celebration

Earlier this week, we celebrated 50 years of Volunteers in Public Schools at LRSD. While we recognize and celebrate our wonderful volunteers year-round, it was nice to have all the individuals and entities who pour into our district under one roof to honor them for their dedication. Another huge congratulations to Nell Matthews, the 2023 Jane Mendel Award recipient. Check out more photos from the ceremony on our Facebook page. 

Gibbs Throws Celebration Honoring 200-Year 
Legacy of Namesake - Judge Mifflin Gibbs


Following a week of activities honoring their school's namesake, Judge Mifflin Gibbs, students at Gibbs International Magnet Elementary School hosted Amielle P. Niriniavisoa Marceda, Ambassador to Madagascar, today to wrap up the celebrations.  Arkasnas Secretary of Education Dr. Jacob Oliva joined the festivities.


Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Signed Bill to Create Special License Plate for LRCH


Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill on Tuesday to create a special license plate for the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. The proceeds will benefit the Tiger Foundation. So all LRCH alum, staff, and supporters make plans to get your custom LRCH license plate to show your Tiger pride! Also, thank you to Central alums Rep. Denise Ennett and Sen. Clarke Tucker for sponsoring this bill.

 

Impressive Showing for LRCH Choirs at Arkansas State Choral Festival


The Little Rock Central High Concert Mixed, Concert Treble and Madrigals competed in the 7A category at Arkansas State Choral Festival last Friday at UCA. All three groups received Superior ratings and received plaques. 

Because they also earned Superior ratings in performance and sight-reading at Region 2 Choral Performance Assessment, all the groups received Sweepstakes. The Concert Treble and Madrigals were named the “Best in Class” in their categories. The LRCH Concert Treble and LRCH Madrigals are state champs! Go Tigers!

Little Rock Central High senior Jessica Doss (far left) was the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship and Parkview High instructor Allison Belcher (not pictured) received a $5,000 cash award from The City Education Trust formed by Jackson T. Stephens and W.R. "Witt" Stephens. Students and teachers attended a reception in their honor at the AT&T Auditorium at the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations!

Top Prizes Go to LRSD Students at Annual Ralph Vines Public Speaking Contest


Congrats to all the outstanding LRSD students who participated in the annual Ralph Vines Public Speaking Contest, including Arianna Williams, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Grand Prize winner! Shout-out to LRCH Principal Nancy Rousseau for hosting the event!

Parkview and Central High Schools Dominate at Arkansas Young Artist Association Awards



Central and Parkview stole the show at the Arkansas Young Artist Association Awards! As a group, Little Rock Central students brought back 61 awards total, 19 being 1st place. Parkview won a total of 51 awards and 7 first-place winners! We'll have additional details about the winners and other participating LRSD schools next week. Metro Students Display Award-Winning Skills


students won seven 1st Place medals competition. In the words of Director Shameka Montgomery, "We appreciate the partnership with high schools across Pulaski County for trusting us to prepare students for success." Congrats to these award-winning students!


LRSD Students Among Them


Nine Little Rock Southwest High School scholars met the language proficiency requirements to earn the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy.  Also joining them with a recognition - Little Rock West.   Southwest High School was also recognized as a first-time recipient school and joins LR West as the only two schools in the Little Rock School District to have scholars qualify for this honor.  A well-deserved congratulations!  

Adopted first by California in 2011, the Seal of Biliteracy is now recognized in 49 states and Washington D.C.
and encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college
admissions offices.”

Since the 2017 pilot year in Arkansas, a total of 4,365 students from 95 high schools around the state have attained this certification across twenty-four languages other than English (Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Filipino, French, German, Gujarati, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Korean, ^Marathi, Marshallese, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, ^Serbian, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu, and Vietnamese).


Gryphons Impress Judges at
 Statewide Art Show!

LR Southwest students also represented LRSD at the annual Arkansas Young Artist Association.  This was the first year of competition for the students.  Congrats to their 1st Place winner, Melanie Gregorio - On-Site Mixed Media.    


LRSD Hosts Inaugural STEM Showcase


Little Rock School District hosted its inaugural STEM Showcase last Thursday, April 6. Elementary students across the district who enjoy math, science, engineering, and/or technology spent the day demonstrating their award-winning projects.








Baseline Gifted & Talented Students Performed Well at the Showcase


Congratulations to Baseline Academy 3rd Grade Gifted & Talented students for winning 1st Place Overall Best in Show at the first-ever LRSD STEM competition! Students engineered and designed an all-inclusive pet playground model for the Southwest Little Rock Community!

Pinnacle View Middle School Track Team Wins District Track Championships


Join us in congratulating the Pinnacle View Middle School Track team on winning the 2023 Little Rock School District's Track Championships! 

Little Rock Central Olympiad Teams Have an Impressive Showing at State Tournament


Little Rock Central High's Science Olympiad teams competed in the State Tournament last Saturday at UALR. Central's teams dominated at state, winning over 60 individual medals, the Spirit Award, and 1st Place Overall. 

They will compete at the National Science Olympiad Tournament in Wichita, Kansas, in May. Please join us in congratulating these students! Huge shout out to Sci Oly Coaches: Tracy Brown, Abby Sinclair, Lee Conrad, Will Drew, Tommye Butcher!

LRCH Hosts Annual Tasty
 International Festival


Last Thursday, students and staff at LRCH celebrated 80 Bites, an international festival of food, culture, and talent. During each class period, participants came to the World Language hallway to sample foods from around the world & enjoy student performances.

Parkview Choirs Receive Superior Ratings at State Choral Festival


Congrats to Parkview's Advanced Treble Chorus, Lab Singers, and Madrigals, who earned all Superior ratings at the State Choral Festival!

All three groups earned a Sweepstakes Award due to earning Superior ratings in performance and sight-reading at Region CPA and State Choral Festival. Advanced Treble Chorus earned “Best in Class” distinction for scoring the highest treble large chorus classification score. We are so proud of these singers!

Kick off National Volunteer Week with Impact The Rock this Saturday, April 15, 9 AM - 11 AM by volunteering in one of three neighborhoods impacted by the tornado. The City of Little Rock needs volunteers with trucks to move debris to the Reservoir drop-off site. Free lunch & t-shirt provided!
