A limited in-person audience attended a ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Little Rock Southwest Magnet High School. The event included a virtual tour and congratulatory video messages from Governor Asa Hutchinson and former President Bill Clinton.

LRSWHS Senior Jordan Harris impressed THV 11's Craig O'Neill so much during his interview promoting his new school that he was named "Arkansan of the Day"! Way to go, Jordan!

Roberts Principal also in the Running for National Award

He likes to have a lot of fun, but he is serious when it comes to business of education! For his commitment to students, he is being recognized. Congrats Steven Helmick - nominated nationally for the Administrator of the Year Award by the American Heart Association - Arkansas! Helmick will also be honored along with his students for their year-long "heart" work during the virtual Kids Heart Challenge & American Heart Challenge National Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 13! 
We're keeping our fingers crossed for you for the national award, Principal Helmick!

This Bears Repeating and the Competition Bears Watching!




Congrats to Landon Runion-Driskel, LRCH - in contention to win a national STEM competition and a cash prize worth thousands of dollars. Landon is  of only 20 finalists from around the world to compete in the 2020 Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition.  He was elected from among more than 240 entries, representing teams from 35 countries including Singapore, India, the Philippines, Canada and the US.

Hope you'll join us in cheering landon on during the competition, which will be broadcast on Facebook this Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020.

Day Camp Success

The summer Day Camps, conducted in partnership with LRSD and the medical community, have come to a close, but not before a little celebrating!  Grateful for the partnerships that allowed us to serve our front line healthcare workers and their families:  UAMS, Arkansas Heart Hospital, Arkansas Surgery Center, the VA Hospital and Rotary Club 99.  #InThisTogether

Great opportunity being researched for Hall High STEAM Magnet High School - UAMS Outreach Program reps are in talks about a potential partnership within Hall to build a robust medical/healthcare academy for our students. Another way are moving full STEAM ahead!

The Division of Elementary & Secondary Education received applications from many exceptional teachers and Ms. Harbin was a real standout. LRCH Exceeds Goals During Arkansas Blood Institute Drive
 
Little Rock Central High School, in partnership with the Arkansas Blood Institute, hosted a blood drive this week and exceeded the goal for the event!  The day ended with 104 generous donors, potentially making a difference in more than 300 lives.  There were 76 first time donors! #PowerofUs


Read, White and Blue...Reading Made Fun!
Jerica Moore Jones of  Brady Day Camp, shared this photo of her enjoying books donated by the Clinton Foundation Penguin Books Too Small to Fail. Hat's off to our community partner for their awesome support.

In our eighth annual Amazing Educators program, we'll recognize one winning teacher in four categories: Elementary School, Middle/Junior High School, High School and Special Needs.


Winners will be featured in the January 2021 issue of Little Rock Family. Along with the feature, they'll each receive an incredible prize package (including a cash prize!), made possible in part by our sponsor Delta Dental.


Private and public school teachers in Benton, Bryant, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Maumelle, North Little Rock and Sherwood are eligible. The deadline to submit your nomination is Sept. 4, 2020.
