Crader Cashes In
on Teaching Success


Jason Crader, Carver Magnet Elementary school was named an Amazing Educator by Little Rock Family Magazine, and recipient of a $1,000 award. Congrats, Mr. Crader, we join your Carver family, including Principal Clifton Woodley in celebrating the wonderful accomplishment!

Dunbar Chess Team Playing to Win!






The Bobcat Knights of Dunbar competed in its first Chess Tournament of the season and took second place in the middle school division. In the high school division, the Mosaic Chess Team took the top spot in the division. This high school team is comprised entirely of former Dunbar students. The first tournament of the season had the distinction of having the largest high school student participation in the history of LRSD chess. Also, congrats to the middle school winners of tournament #1, Pinnacle View Middle School. And hats off to the elementary winners of the tournament #1, Roberts Elementary.

Horace Mann Bearcats Claws Championship


The Bearcats volleyball team won the championship, led by coach Krystal Duckery Moore. Captain Sydnei Pippins (10) and Co-Captain Marlee Keck (30) helped lead the team to victory. The team is shown here in their dress up attire and also pictured in uniform proudly displaying their trophy after the win.  after their win. Congratulations team for going in for the “kill!”



Record Setting Debate Duo
LRCH Debate Team Seniors Sakshi Garg and Valorie Lam earned their THIRD bid to the National Tournament of Champions, and emerged as the Champions of the JW Patterson Invitational at Heritage Hall! Garg and Lam won an impressive 10 debates on their way to the title (a policy debate round is 1.5 hours long—15 hours total of debates)! Additionally, Garg was recognized at TOP SPEAKER in the tournament, beating out 152 debaters for the honor.


Magnet Fair Features International Elementary School Talent

LRSD hosted its Annual Magnet School Fair recently and third and fourth graders from Gibb International Magnet Elementary School performed the Pledge of Allegiance in French, German and Spanish. These students receive daily instruction on world language and experience world cultures and international studies. #LRSDMagnet4Success #PowerofUS

Boss's Day "Rolls" Around

Candidates seeking a Master’s or Program of Study in Gifted Education are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Up to five scholarships will be awarded at the AGATE Spring Conference. The Big Boo!-seum Bash  



This event helps you get a head start on trick-or-treating! This free, family-focused, annual event features 14 participating organizations at nine different downtown attractions. Each venue will be open 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 with trick-or-treating, games, and activities for all ages. Don’t forget your costumes!
The 14 participating local organizations include:
  • Arkansas Arts Center (with Central Arkansas Library System and Central Arkansas Water) at Terry House Mansion, 411 E. 7th St.
  • Heifer International at 1 World Ave.
  • Historic Arkansas Museum at 200 E. 3rd St.
  • Little Rock Visitor Center at Historic Curran Hall at 615 E. Capitol Ave.
  • MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History (with the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum) at 503 E. 9th St.
  • Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (with Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site) at 9th St. and Broadway
  • Museum of Discovery (with Central Arkansas Library System) at 500 President Clinton Ave.
  • Old State House Museum (with Arkansas Secretary of State) at 300 W. Markham St.
  • Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center at 602 President Clinton Ave.
Make sure each of of your little ghosts and goblins pick up a game card at any of the stops, and get it stamped at each location. By getting it stamped at all nine locations, you can enter the drawing for a spook-tacular grand prize: a new tablet! If you only make it to seven of the stops, you can enter to win a $100 gift card.

 “Our 2019 inductees continue the tradition of showcasing the tremendous talent that Arkansas produces,” said Charles Stewart, ABHOF chairman. “The Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation is thrilled to honor their achievements and once again put the best that our state has to offer on display.”
Proceeds from the 27th annual induction ceremony will benefit the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation, which, since 2004, has awarded more than $650,000 in grants.
