These academically talented seniors represent the top scorers in the state and have the opportunity to advance to Finalist standing and compete for prestigious scholarships. We are proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in their studies!
Statewide Road Safety Campaign
Two of our very own are in the spotlight! Parkview Arts/Science Magnet’s Austin Bernard and Little Rock Central’s Keegan Washington are featured in the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s Street Smart commercials. This statewide program, developed in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Education, teaches students about road safety as passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and future drivers, helping them establish safe habits long before they get behind the wheel.
Congratulations to Southwest High School’s Dontrell Dyer, who was honored as Intern on the Rise by the City of Little Rock Department of Community Programs. Dontrell earned this recognition for his outstanding work in the Summer Youth Employment Opportunity Program, where he demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and a strong commitment to his future career in education.
The Little Rock School District launched its first Java with Jermall this week, bringing parents, staff, and community members together with Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright for coffee and conversation. The series is designed to encourage open dialogue and strengthen connections across the LRSD family. If you missed the event, mark your calendar for the next Java with Jermall on October 8, at Mann Magnet Middle School from 7:45–8:45 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
Reading in the Rock Success
Otter Creek Elementary went above and beyond in this summer’s Reading in the Rock challenge! Hundreds of students, families, and staff across LRSD participated, but Otter Creek’s excitement and engagement stood out. To celebrate, the Kona Ice Truck stopped by, and every student and staff member enjoyed a free Flavorwave Ice treat. Way to go, Otter Creek!
This week, schools across the Little Rock School District opened their doors to honor and celebrate our amazing grandparents. From classroom visits and special lunches to fun activities and photo opportunities, students and their families enjoyed making memories together. LRSD is grateful for the love, support, and encouragement our grandparents provide every day! Returns to Inspire
Mabelvale Elementary recently welcomed back former student and U.S. Army soldier, Joshua Perkins. During his visit, Perkins encouraged students to set goals and highlighted the importance of education in achieving success. His story of perseverance and service continues to inspire students and the entire LRSD community.

Congratulations to Jason Wallace, Jerome Hunter, and Michael Pirnique, winners of LRSD’s Rock N Roll Sushi Dads/Father-Figures Contest! Jerome was the lucky winner of the dinner for 6 by Rock N Roll Sushi, while Jason and his family enjoyed cheering on the Razorbacks, compliments of donor Muskie Harris, and Michael will enjoy admission and parking at the Arkansas State Fair, thanks to our generous community partner - the Arkansas State Fair. We’re proud to celebrate our LRSD families and thankful for the support that made these prizes possible!

It’s another exciting week of high school football in the Little Rock School District! Hall takes on Lakeside, Central battles Southside, Parkview faces Bryant, and Southwest goes head-to-head with Lufkin. Join us in supporting our student-athletes as they compete with pride and showcase their hard work under the Friday night lights.
A reminder: updated athletic season ticket pricing along with a brand-new Student Season Pass now available to make game attendance more affordable and accessible. For just $20 (middle school) or $25 (high school), students can attend all home games at their school throughout the year, excluding tournaments and playoff events. Additional season pass options for families and fans are also available, with tickets and passes now sold exclusively online through GoFan.
The Little Rock School District has introduced new game day guidelines to ensure a safe and family-friendly atmosphere at athletic events. Updates include earlier ticket sales closing, new entry requirements for students, and enforcement of the clear bag policy. The Little Rock School District is building its leadership team and is now accepting applications for the Building Leaders Pool. Positions include principals and assistant principals for elementary, middle, and high schools. All certified and classified employees may donate at least one day of sick leave by September 15, 2025 to join the LRSD Sick Leave Bank. Membership provides access to up to 20 additional sick days in the event of a catastrophic illness once your own leave is exhausted. Only contributors may request days from the bank.

The Little Rock School District is excited to announce the continued partnership with Rock Region Metro, offering free transportation to all LRSD students and staff with a valid ID badge. This service includes access to all Rock Region buses and Metro Connect. Participants simply need to pick up a special sticker from their school office, which must be displayed on their ID badge. Held every Wednesday evening from 6:00–8:00 PM at the River Market Pavilions, this free, family-friendly concert series celebrates the heart of Little Rock’s local jazz and R&B talent. Bring a picnic, grab a drink to support music education, and enjoy the music under the stars. In case of rain, concerts move indoors to Ottenheimer River Market Hall.

Get ready for Little Rock’s biggest street party of the year! The 14th Annual Downtown Food Truck Festival is back at 30 Crossing Greenspace on September 21, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy over 100 food trucks and vendors, live music, handmade goods, and refreshing drinks. Admission is free, and food and drinks are available for purchase.
Mark your calendar for Fiesta en SoMa 2025 on Friday, October 3, from 4–9 p.m. in Little Rock’s lively SoMa neighborhood. This family-friendly celebration of Latin American culture will feature live music, cultural dance performances, delicious food from local vendors, and the exciting 2nd Annual Tamale Taste-Off. The Little Rock Farmers Market has opened its doors for another season, welcoming visitors to the River Market with its farm-fresh produce, locally crafted foods, and handmade arts and crafts. As it has since 1996, the market invites SNAP beneficiaries, offering tokens purchasable on-site and participating in the Double Up Food Bucks program. Free parking, including spaces for seniors and handicapped individuals, ensures convenient access for all patrons.
