October 7: LRSD Annual College Fair
Eight Central High School seniors have been recognized as National Merit Commended Scholars in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor places them among the top 50,000 students nationwide who took the PSAT/NMSQT, highlighting their exceptional academic promise. While they will not continue in the competition for scholarships, each student receives a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in recognition of their achievement. LRSD joined First Security Bank, students, staff, families, and community members to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for the Bank at Chicot Elementary. It’s the fifth LRSD school to benefit from this partnership, with the program offering hands-on financial literacy lessons, career exploration, and the opportunity for students to serve as tellers - helping prepare them for future success.
Congratulations to LRSD Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright on being recognized as one of AMP’s 2025 Achievers in Their Forties! Dr. Wright has been leading LRSD since 2022 with a strong focus on equity, innovation, academic excellence, and community engagement. LRSD student leaders recently trained with representatives from the Health Information Project (H.I.P.) to help bring mental health and wellness resources to their schools. Dunbar Business, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship Magnet Middle School recently hosted the MLK Tech Summit, presented by the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and the Arkansas Department of Education. Students enjoyed inspiring speakers, hands-on activities, and an exciting visit from the DREAM 2K Robot, all designed to encourage them to dream bigger and embrace future opportunities in technology.
Celebrate Peace Week with Powerful Actions
Carver-Washington STEAM Magnet Elementary kicked off Peace Week with a spirited parade and classroom activities centered on the theme “Wildcats are Powerful Peacemakers!” Meanwhile, McDermott Elementary continued its tradition by gathering for their annual Peace Week photo. This year’s aerial picture echoed the UN’s theme, “Act Now for Peace." We are thankful for a community that comes together to support our students.

Mabelvale Elementary students welcomed a special guest this week as Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. became the very first guest on their EAST Program's “We Speak the Truth” Podcast. Mayor Scott shared about his role as mayor and encouraged the 5th graders to keep striving for greatness. Thanks to support from the EAST Initiative, students are learning valuable leadership, service, and technology skills that will prepare them for the future.
Parkview Magnet High School’s Mime Troupe was spotted performing in the hallways this week, showing off their unique talent and school spirit. At Parkview, students have the opportunity to explore creative outlets like mime, making every day a little more fun and expressive.
KATV Friday Night Football Coverage
Central High School was buzzing with excitement as KATV Channel 7 featured the Tigers’ matchup against Southside as the “Game of the Week" last week. From the marching band to the cheerleaders and spirited fans, the pre-game energy highlighted the pride and community that make Central High so special.

From September 15 to October 15, the Little Rock School District celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. We honor the history, culture, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino students, families, and staff who make our schools stronger every day.
Join us on Friday, September 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the Little Rock Southwest High School Auditorium for a special Hispanic Heritage Month program. This free community event will highlight Hispanic traditions and culture through music, stories, and more. Everyone is invited!
Hamilton Learning Academy will host the Misunderstood Showcase on Thursday, October 2, at 5:30 p.m. This student-led event will feature poetry, art, music, and fashion, giving young people the opportunity to express their creativity, share their stories, and challenge stereotypes. The showcase is a celebration of resilience and talent, highlighting the voices and vision of Hamilton’s students.
High school seniors and college students are invited to apply for the 2025 One Korean Scholarship Foundation awards. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000, and recipients will be recognized at the annual banquet on December 13, 2025. Applications are due by October 31, 2025. This October, the LRSD Culture, Climate, and Well-Being Department will host a series of staff wellness sessions focused on sustainable self-care. Each week, participants can easily integrate practical tools, including mindfulness and stress management, into their daily routines, fostering social connections. These sessions are designed to support educators and staff in prioritizing well-being and creating a personalized self-care plan.

"All Abilities" Division of LR Marathon
Logan’s Run, a 2K non-competitive race, will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Murray Park. The event is designed for individuals ages 5 and up with intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disabilities, offering an opportunity to stay active, set goals, and celebrate achievements. As the kickoff to the All Abilities Division of the Little Rock Marathon, Logan’s Run is all about building a legacy of inclusion, empowerment, and community support. Participants can run, walk, or roll their way to the finish line. Free registration is now open!

The Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site will host a free public event on Thursday, September 25, at 7:00 p.m. at Philander Smith University’s Harry R. Kendall Health Nugent Conference Center. This year’s program marks the 68th anniversary of Central High School’s desegregation by the Little Rock Nine and will feature a discussion on the psychological impact of trauma and pathways to wellness with members of the Little Rock Nine and Dr. Ivory Toldson of Howard University.
