Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month!


In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we would like to highlight both local and national, influential Hispanic-American individuals. Today we celebrate the work and achievements of Arkansas United Founding Executive Director, Mireya Reith. Mireya Reith has dedicated her life's work to advocating for immigrant communities by closing service gaps in our state. Stay tuned to find out who will be our highlight for next week!

Honoring the 64th Anniversary of the Integration of Little Rock Central High School


64 years ago, nine brave teenagers undertook the brave role of integrating Little Rock Central High School. They persevered despite many obstacles. We are grateful for their incredible legacy, strength and resilience. To commemorate the 64th anniversary of Central High's desegregation, check out this free online programming hosted by the Little Rock Central High School NHS Visitor Center!

LRCH's SECME's 1st Fabrication Day of the Season!


LRCH's South East Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME) class kicked off its first fabrication day of the season! Students were able to start designing their robots and preparing their presentations for local and regional competitions. We are looking forward to seeing what our young, STEM masterminds will create and the awards they will bring home!  

Class of 2021-2022 Aspiring Leaders


Earlier this week Little Rock School District welcomed its 5th Aspiring Leadership Institute! We were excited to witness the number of talented individuals seeking to cultivate their leadership skills. We look forward to seeing you grow as you progress in role,s and continue your journey of being leaders in our district. Special thanks to dr. Ericka McCarroll for leading the charge in preparing emerging leaders at LRSD!


LRCH Debate has a Triumphant Start to their Debate Season!

After a total of 22 long hours of competition, Little Rock Central High's undisputed debate champs emerged triumphant from the University of Kentucky Season Opener two short weekends ago. The Season Opener allows new debaters to get a feel for the competition and LRCH's renowned program  did not disappoint. Despite the pressures of navigating life as a student during a global pandemic, our young people manage to exceed expectations. So when you see the below mentioned students, please be sure to offer them a huge congratulations! Here's a quick rundown of their performance:

Arkansas Peace week 2021 has been taking place this entire week1! Each year, LRSD schools observe Arkansas Peace Week by participating in events, activities, and contests that teach students the importance of building peacemaking skills. This week, we are recognizing Ms. Ruthie Walls of LRCH for being #CaughtDoingGood. Supt. Mike Poore explains that Ms. Walls is the type of educator who has made a lifelong impact on her students. Principal Nancy Rousseau says Ms. Walls' students love her class so much that they rush to sign up. Marsha Masters with Economics Arkansas praised Ms. Walls on the tremendous impact she had on two young ladies' lives - one happens to be a current LRSD Board member. Thea Foundation's 2021-2022 Scholarship Competition!


The Thea Foundation announces a significant increase for their 2021-2022 scholarship competition. The foundation will continue to offer 36 scholarships with an increase in offerings from $80,000 to $219,000. The theme for this year is "Reflection/Refraction". All submissions in all categories for this year's competition will be conducted online. 

The categories are:
Visual Arts - 10 Scholarships
Performing Arts - 10 Scholarships
Creative Writing - 10 Scholarships
Film - 3 Scholarships
Fashion Design - 3 Scholarships

Below are the key deadlines for 2022 competitions:
Performing Arts - Noon, January 14
Visual Arts - Noon, January 21
Creative Writing - Noon, January 28
Film - Noon, February 4
Fashion Design - Noon, February 11

Spoken Word Entries will use either Performing Arts of Creative Writing competitions to compete for scholarships. The award for first place winners will be $10,000. Find additional details here.

Jurassic Quest is one of the first indoor family edutainment shows to re-launch since March 2020 due to the pandemic and will open at the Statehouse Convention Center with its most beloved and unique experiences for the whole family including more than 100 life-like dinosaurs, dinosaur themed rides, live dinosaur shows, interactive science and art activities, a “Triceratots” soft play area for our littlest explorers, face painting, bounce houses and inflatable attractions (socks required), photo opportunities, and more.

Walk through the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic periods to see the dinos that ruled on land, and “deep dive” into the “Ancient Oceans” exhibit to come face to face with the largest apex predator that ever existed – a moving, life-size, 50-foot-long megalodon! Meet the babies, hatched only at Jurassic Quest: Cammie the Camarasaurus, Tyson the T-Rex and Trixie the Triceratops – and, you may even catch one of the star dino trainers: Safari Sarah, Dino Dustin, Captain Caleb, Prehistoric Nick or Park Ranger Marty!

Little Rock Jazz in the Park Returns!


Last call!  Jazz in the Park is a FREE event that celebrates local musicians in Little Rock’s jazz scene. Every Wednesday night from 6pm - 8pm during the month of September, this family-friendly event will feature a different band at the East Farmers Market Pavilion.
