The LRSD Community Steps Up In a Big Way to Stock the Rock the Wright!
Sending out a huge thank you to the Little Rock community for stepping up and contributing to LRSD's school-based pantry initiative - Stock the Rock the Wright Way! Schools across the district received donations from state and local government representatives, organizations, and community members in order to better meet the needs of our students and families. We are grateful for the community's participation as we enter spring break, when families might most need the donated non-perishable items and household cleaning supplies. Great things truly are happening at LRSD.

LRSD Job Fair was a Huge Success
The Little Rock School District hosted a job fair last Saturday at Little Rock Southwest High School, and according to participants as well as LRSD staff, it was a hit. Applicants were able to apply for jobs and get interviews on-site! Congratulations to our Human Resources team and everyone who helped make the event a huge success.

Business Acumen at Expo This Week
LRCH students in Ms. Ruthie Walls's classes are getting practical experience beyond the classroom. Small business owners from various industries were invited to campus on Wednesday for a Business Expo. The students interviewed each entrepreneur, and one senior, Mya Hullum, who has her own aspirations, set up a table for her business - Gourmet Glitz. Earlier in the week, Mr. Jerry Talbert of the US Small Business Administration and Ms. April Broadrick of A & A Fire Safety came to speak to the students.
The event was an activity of a larger unit called "From Ninth Street to Now." The students learned about the history and economics of Little Rock's Historic West Ninth Street with culminating events, including the Business Expo and a field trip to the Mosaic Templar's Cultural Center as well as the former Dreamland Ballroom. It was a great learning experience for the students!

Parkview Senior Sadie Kirk's Hard Work Pays Off to Create Seizure Safe Schools
Join us in congratulating Parkview Senior Sadie Kirk, who has worked tirelessly with the Epilepsy Foundation of Arkansas Advocacy Committee to pass the Seizure Safe Schools Act. The recently passed act will require training for school personnel in seizure recognition. Additionally, schools would be required to have a seizure action plan for students diagnosed with epilepsy. We're so proud of Sadie for her hard work. Students statewide will now benefit from her legacy.
LR Central Debate Brings the Heat to Chilly Harvard Nationals!
Congratulations to the Little Rock Central debaters who traveled all the way to the Harvard National Speech and Debate Tournament in Cambridge, MA to bring home lots of TSA-triggering hardware!
Senior Georgia Liu earned her SEVENTH BID to the Tournament of Champions in Congressional Debate! This achievement puts Georgia in the Top 10 Congressional Debate Bid Earners in the country. Georgia finished in Semifinals of Harvard Nationals—the most challenging bid tournament of the year for Congressional Debate.
Junior Rose Walters earned her SECOND BID to the Tournament of Champions in Congressional Debate, fully punching her ticket to the TOC in April! Rose finished in the Quarterfinals!
After seven grueling preliminary rounds of debate (14 hours), Juniors Brady Chandler and Bess Kerby and Junior Sarea Pitts and Sophomore Ayoka Boaitey emerged UNDEFEATED and the TOP TWO SEEDS in the JV Policy Division. Chandler/Kerby advanced through all elimination debates to the FINAL ROUND, placing SECOND in the Division in a close 2-1 decision (fun fact: LRCH Alum, Darrin (DJ) Williams was a panelist in this round!). Boaitey/Pitts placed THIRD in the division, and Sarea Pitts earned SECOND SPEAKER in the division! Sophomore Blanche Finzer and Junior Joey Leenhouts advanced to elimination rounds of JV Policy Debate, placing FOURTH in the division!
Juniors Jack Baker and Jackson Mills advanced to Varsity Policy Debate elimination rounds, earning a spot in the Double-Octafinals. They continue to distinguish themselves as one of the best (and youngest) bid-level policy teams in the country! They are the only team from Arkansas qualified to the Tournament of Champions in Policy Debate.
Junior Layla Perry and Freshman Aarush Gaddi finished preliminary rounds in Novice Policy Debate with a 5-1 record, finishing in the ELITE EIGHT of the division! Perry and Gaddi have placed at every national tournament they have attended this year. They are well-poised to win the Novice National Championship at the end of this month.

Little Rock Central Students Cash inOn AP Performances
Join us in congratulating these award-winning LRCH students for their test scores in AP Computer Science. Students scoring a 5 on the exam received $1,000, students scoring a 4 received $750, and those who scored a 3 received $250. Central students earned a total of $10,500 thanks to their hard work and the incentive program set up by former Governor Asa Hutchinson.

State Tournament Wins for LRSD
Destination Imagination teams across the school district attended the state tournament last weekend and did not disappoint. LRSD had seven teams place first in the state tournament! They all advance to the Destination Imagination Globals in Kansas City in May. We are so proud of these teams and sending a major shoutout to all the team managers for their dedication and support.
Pinnacle View Middle School Choir Performed Well at Region 2 Choral Assessment
Pinnacle View Middle School's Intermediate and Advanced Choir students performed at Choral Performance Assessment at Sherwood First Baptist Church on March 9th. Their Treble Chorus received Superior scores for their stage performance and sight reading, and their Mixed Chorus received Excellent ratings on their stage performance and sight reading!

Parkview Debate placed fourth in the state at the mock trial state
championship on Saturday!
This team has worked on this case since it came out back in
October. While they won't be moving on to the national competition, their hard
work and long hours paid off, and their debate sponsor couldn't be prouder of them.
A special congratulations goes out to Damian McCone and David Kamanga, who won best witness awards, and Aiyanna Mitchell, who won two awards for best attorney.

Chicot Vision Clinic welcomed its 300th student for a vision screening on March 1st! The vision clinic is open to all LRSD students and siblings for full vision exams. If a student seen here needs glasses, the clinic orders those too! Insurance may be billed, but there is no cost to our families!

LRSD Early Childhood's Yvette Lovelace Publishes Children's Book
Congrats to new author and LRSD employee Yvette Lovelace - one of our pre-K family members at Geyer Springs ECC. She’s been with our district for 21 years, 18 of which were in pre-K. She began writing a book to encourage her grandson, who used the words “I can’t” too often, not knowing this would later develop into a children’s book. She and her grandson actually co-wrote the book using his own words. Her book pre-launched last week, and we’re all very excited for her. Additional LRSD Schools Also Recognized as a Certified Heart Safe School
A month after Roberts became the first campus in the state certified as a Heart Safe School, additional Little Rock School District Schools have now earned their Heart Safe School certifications through Arkansas Project ADAM.
The schools completed a quality sudden cardiac arrest program of awareness, training, and effective emergency response to promote a safe environment for students, visitors, and staff, as outlined in the Heart Safe School Checklist. According to Health Services Director Jacqueline McEuen, we have certified around 300 staff members in CPR since January!

LRSD's Moms Matter Luncheon was a Blast
Little Rock School District hosts an annual photo sweepstakes competition affectionately named Moms Matter. This year's event was a blast as attendees enjoyed an afternoon of games, door prizes, and good, old-fashioned southern lunch - creamy mashed potatoes, delicious green beans, fall-off-the-bone baked chicken/crispy fried chicken, and a custom-made cake for dessert. Also, we'd like to send a huge shout-out to Main Event for donating a family of four prize pack valued at $200 to one lucky mom who can treat her family to a day of fun at Little Rock's newest attraction. And a huge thanks to Eggshells for their donated prize! It's safe to say the moms had a great time getting to know each other while learning more about Supt. Dr. Jermall Wright and his plans for #ReimaginingLRSD.
