2021 Poore Man on the Roof Update

Donations for the District's annual Poore Man on the Roof Campaign rolled in quickly this week. Local businesses and schools within the District showed their commitment to this amazing cause by helping us fill Mr. Poore's office with non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, and monetary donations. We would like to send a warm thank you to every person and entity for your contributions. At this rate, Mr. Poore will be on that roof in no time!

If you haven't had a chance to donate it is not too late! We are still accepting donations at the LRSD admin building downtown. You can also purchase a few extra canned goods or other nonperishable items and drop them in the marked bins as you're are leaving your local Little Rock Kroger stores.

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, click on  https://tinyurl.com/2021PMOTR or on CashApp:  $PooreManontheRoof or use the QR Code below to be redirected to the CashApp link.

Sam's Club Makes Generous Donation

LRSD Celebrates our School Counselors!

This week is recognized as National School Counseling Week, and LRSD joined the celebration. This week we honored our school counselors by inviting the community to dedicate social media posts to their school counselors to give him or her a chance to win prizes. Thank you so much to all of our school counselors, we appreciate you for all you do!

Congrats to the following counselors whose names were drawn for gift cards:  Trinity Bennett (Little Rock Southwest), Andrea Brooks (Romine Elementary), Mary Taylor (Parkview), Ann Gregory (Brady Elementary) and Joshua Valovich (Mann Magnet).

Blankets of Hope

In a nutshell, Blankets of Hope partners with schools and others across the nation to provide blankets and handwritten letters of encouragement to people experiencing homelessness.

To date the brothers have provided over 35,000 Blankets to those in need in 39 states including Arkansas.

Over 200 schools have already partnered with Blankets of Hope, including the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Little Rock Central High.

In these times of increasing fear and division, the Blankets of Hope brothers are spreading hope and love.
If you'd like to make a contribution you can do so both online or through the mail. While any contribution would be appreciated, $50 would provide funding for 10 blankets.

(100% of donations are tax-deductible and will go to providing blankets in Arkansas.)

Carver Celebrates Black History Month

Carver elementary celebrated black history month with a door decorating contest. Not only are the doors decorated beautifully, but they are informative as well. What a creative way to spotlight prominent, black figures of the past and present.
National Kids Dental Health Month

Our partners at Delta Dental are challenging you to 28 days of brushing and flossing at morning and at night. This month is national kids dental health month and in the age of social media challenges what better way to encourage the youth to practice good oral hygiene than a challenge?

February is National Heart Month

The American Heart Association is asking that you GO RED in order to raise awareness for national heart month. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, fewer patients are visiting the doctor. It is now more important than ever to remain vigilant with self-monitoring blood pressure and hypertension for at risk patients. Support the AHA's mission by going red in observation of National Heart Month.

Mark your calendars!  On Wednesday, April 7, our district will hold our celebration and join hundreds of other districts to GO RED to support the mission of the American Heart Association: to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Get a jump start and order your shirt today!

DEADLINE:  T-Shirts must be ordered by Wednesday, March 10 to receive them in time for LRSD Wear RED Day on April 7th.

HOW TO ORDER:  To make your $20 donation, simply text DHCLRSD to 41444.  You will immediately receive a link to a quick donation form or click HERE to order online!

SHIRT DETAILS:

National SBHC Month

School based health clinics help bridge the gap between under-served children/adolescence and health care providers. SBHC's serve these populations by placing critically needed service like medical, behavioral, dental, and vision care directly in schools to make health care equally accessible. Join us in celebrating the health care professionals who make this possible!
