Author Katina Booth White
Visits Parkview
Parkview students enjoyed having Katina Booth White, co-author of the book “STEM Looks Like Me”, speak to them last week. The former LRSD PLTW teacher now works for UAMS Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, where she is the inaugural Curriculum Coordinator for the UAMS Pathways Academy.
She spoke to students about the lesser-known STEM careers, the lack of diversity in the field of STEM, and the importance of changing the narrative. She also talked about certain myths associated with STEM and programs for students provided by the UAMS Division of Diversity. All students received an autographed book.

Help LRSD Stock the Rock the Wright Way
Tackling food insecurity among our students will be the focus of LRSD Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright's signature community initiative, "Stock the Rock the Wright Way." Wright kicked off the campaign this week at the LRSD administration building, surrounded by principals and counselors from District schools. The campaign's goal is to collect non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, and household supplies to replenish existing school-based pantries or create new ones to support LRSD students/families with the most urgent needs. We surveyed principals about specific needs at their campuses, which are listed in the link below. The drop-off date is Wednesday, March 15th, at noon at LRSD schools. Hope you'll join us!

LRSD Hosted Its First EAST Night Out
As part of the EAST Assurances, every program must host an EAST Night Out open house event to celebrate EAST in our communities. This year, all EAST programs in LRSD committed to having a district-wide affair. This was a chance to show what LRSD has to offer with 21st technology and community service.
All of the schools brought their best projects to share with families and potential community partners. We appreciate all the families and friends for coming out to support us. Several staff from the EAST Initiative were present as well.
