 State Chess Champions!



25 schools from across the state participated in the tournament last weekend. Thanks for your support and leadership of the team, LRCH math teacher John Madlock. Principal Nancy Rousseau says, "His leadership has brought chess back to Central and then to lead the state. We are so proud of our students and him!"

26 PHMS students attended the AR Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Middle Level State Leadership Conference held April 4th at the Marriott hotel. These members competed against 750 other students from across the state.   

PHMS placed in 5 events and had 9 students qualify to compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Chicago this summer!  

Congratulations to the following students:

2nd Place in Community Service Project—Madi Carr, Jack Mullins, Olivia Adams

Stephens Stars Shine Bright at
AR Bankers Association Meeting


Stephens Elementary students and Principal Phillip Carlock presented at this year's Arkansas Bankers Association meeting. In this photo, they are seen with John and Reynie Rutledge of First Security Bank. Stephens was the first school in LRSD to open an elementary student-operated bank, sponsored by First Security!

Dr. Danyell Cummings Named First Black Female UALR Alumni Association Board President


Congrats to LRSD testing director, Dr. Danyell Cummings, for being featured in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette's High Profile section! We are so proud to have her as an integral member of our team and look forward to her continued professional success. Read the entire feature on Dr. Cummings here.

LRSD Among Districts Recognized by AR Kids Read During Annual Spellebration 2022


Spellebration is AR Kids Read's annual adult spelling bee fundraising event to support grade level reading. This year, Superintendent Mike Poore was honored for our district's efforts in promoting literacy. Dr. Charles McNulty (Pulaski County Special School District Superintendent), Dr. Jeremy Owoh (Jacksonville Pulaski North School District Superintendent), and Dr. Greg Pilewski (North Little Rock School District Superintendent) were also recognized.  Dustin Barnes accepted the award in honor of his boss at NLR. We are so grateful to be recognized by AR Kids Read.

Arkansas Children's Hospital School-Based Health Clinic's Now Seeing all LRSD Students


Gibbs and Dunbar Students Came Together to Celebrate the Legacy of Florence Price


On Monday, April 4, 2022, Dunbar had a kickoff celebration for Florence Price Week with a collaborative reading of the children’s book, Who is Florence Price?. Gibbs Magnet Elementary hosted Dunbar students, Mallory Moncrief, Desire Lee, Olive Byrd, and Aeiress Duhart as guest readers sharing the book to all 4th and 5th grades classes. The readers and students all enjoyed the event. Dunbar students were able to give away 5 books to each class at Gibbs thanks to a generous donation  from the Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association and Pyramid Art and Books.  Each 4th and 5th Grade teacher at Gibbs also received a copy of the book for their classroom library!

This project was organized by Gibbs Media Specialist, Lori Gibson, Dunbar Media Specialist, Wendy Ward Russell, and Dunbar Literacy Facilitator, Nell Weaver.  Speaking of the renowned composer, Florence Price.  Check out this flyer for a special commemorative event to cap the week:

Artistry in the Rock is a celebration and showcase of LRSD student talent in the performing and visual arts. The them of this year's showcase is "What If... A Kaleidoscope of Possibilities". Students created bodies of work with that exact question in mind, "What if?". The Fine Arts Department worked diligently to create a unique, virtual exhibition to showcase the many talents of our district's promising young artists. Click here to to view the illustrious work of our students, Pre-K-12.

Tomorrow Marks the Day-long Celebration of the Tricentennial Discovery of La Petit Roche (The Little Rock)

Family Fair (11am-5pm) with kids’ activities, bounce houses, a rock- climbing wall, a spinning ride and a swinging pirate ship. There will also be food trucks and cultural offerings from the Early Arkansaw Reenactors Association and Native American organizations, plus hands-on activities at the Museum of Discovery (11am-5pm)

Museum of Discovery: In honor of the 300th anniversary of the discovery of La Petite Roche, the MOD will be doing a boat building and design activity in the PPG STEAM Studio (April 6-12), while Wiggle Worms (for kids 6 and younger and their families) will have a geology activity related to the “Little Rock” Tuesday (April 5), Thursday (April 7), and Saturday (April 9). Kids Fest Little Rock comes to the Statehouse Convention Center on Friday, April 15th, and Saturday, April 16th! Featuring mini-figure displays, bounce houses, costumed heroes, princesses, community organizations, video games, tabletop games, a nerf battle maze, photo ops, and so much more!


Little Rock Zoo Presents Breakfast with a Twist



The Little Rock Zoo's Breakfast series, Breakfast With a Twist, has returned! Guests will enjoy a boxed continental breakfast at the Elephant Stage and a special keeper talk on a featured animal. After breakfast, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a painting session with Painting with a Twist staff! Following that, all guests are invited to stay and explore the Zoo.
