This week's concert featuring current and past LRSD staff, along with LRSD alums, performed an impressive roster of hits to benefit the Artistry in the Rock scholarship fund. The next concert will showcase the All-City Jazz Band at the Ron Robinson Theater on Friday, March 13.

Gibbs Students Grab Geography Awards
Elizabeth Atkins became the first GeoBee Champion in Gibbs' history to win the Geography Bee two years-in-a-row (as a 4th grader and as a 5th grader). Daniel Witsell came in second in the sudden death tie breaker round. Elizabeth went on to take the state test in order to qualify for the Arkansas State GeoBee in March. Way to go, students!

These Excel high school students shared their passion, serving as ambassadors at the 2020 Career Fair. Thursday, middle school students learned about possible career options and Friday, it was high schoolers' turn.
LRSD Transition Fair
Little Rock School Districts Division of Special Programs
sponsored the Next Steps College and
Career Transition Fair on February 7, 2020 at Hall High Cirks Arena. Over twenty-five statewide vendors from
career and college agencies participated by providing information to students
and parents regarding job opportunities, post-secondary training, college
information and financial resources. Over 300 eighth – twelfth grade students
and parents participated in informational breakout sessions, games, drawings, and
scavenger hunts, all designed to increase their knowledge of post-secondary
opportunities. Special thanks to the
committee, supervisors and sponsors – Sam’s Club Little Rock, Tacos 4 Life, HAD 2 Graduate, and Cheers in the
Heights.

Congrats to Community Pattner, Tendaji
The program was recently recognized by Foundations, Inc and is invited to share more about the outstanding achievements at a conference later this month.. Here's more from the news release::
The Tendaji Community Development Corporation’s I.M.P.A.C.T., a 21st CCLC-funded afterschool program in Little Rock, Arkansas has been named Foundations’s Spotlight Program. Tendaji will be highlighted at Foundations's signature three-and-half day Beyond School Hours (BSH) Conference at the Caribe Royale hotel in Orlando from February 26-29, 2020.
“When you learn of a site doing exemplary and innovative work with children, their work should be shared with like-minded educators. By highlighting Tendaji, our conference attendees have an opportunity to learn from on the ground programs that are successful,”, says Rhonda Lauer, President and CEO of Foundations. "Foundations, Inc. in conjunction with the Mott Foundation, is honored to spotlight the Tendaji 21st CCLC afterschool program."
Tendaji’s leaders, staff and students will demonstrate how the arts support students’ literacy and math skill acquisition through a series of conference events. This includes a workshop with the lead literacy teacher and Tendaji students on how to integrate literacy and art, and a demonstration of the program’s literary technique, the “Comprehension Flash Mob.” Conference attendees will also have an inside look at the first-of-its-kind Reclaiming Scholars program, an alternative program to out-of-school suspension that Tendaji offers. Prior to the conference, 300 21st CCLC program directors and grantees will experience an exclusive session with Tendaji staff on literacy strategies they can implement in their own afterschool program sites. These incredible learning opportunities culminate in a showcase of the Tendaji students’ skills, including a musical performance accompanied by an Essentially Ellington high school band from Orlando.
Foundations' twenty-third annual Beyond School Hours (BSH) Conference is the largest of its kind. This event brings together 2,000 afterschool program practitioners, policy makers, directors and organization providers to learn from the nation’s best about how to achieve the goals of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLCs).
