Congratulations to Frank Bee, Jr. for winning a top prize in the "Dads Take Your Child to School" contest! Frank had a blast at the Razorback game against UAPB last night at War Memorial Stadium. A big thank you to Muskie Harris for generously donating the tickets.
National Network Chiefs for Change
Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright has joined Chiefs for Change, a national network of education leaders. This group is dedicated to advancing policies that make a difference for students nationwide. Dr. Wright’s leadership and equity commitment have significantly impacted our district, and his inclusion in this network is a testament to his efforts. We look forward to seeing the positive changes from this collaboration.
Students from Hall/West, Central, and Parkview High Schools are excelling in the Metro/Baptist Health College LPN program. Their hard work and dedication are truly commendable. Thanks to a $194,000 grant from OSD, LRSD is proud to support this valuable career training opportunity. It’s a fantastic way for students to invest in their futures!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy
It was a great day at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy! Spirit squads from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped by to pump up the students before their big game at War Memorial Stadium. The squads brought their best cheers, interacted with the students, and spread plenty of school spirit. The energy was contagious, leaving everyone hyped for the game!
Western Hills Elementary School has introduced a new sensory room as part of its new autism program, providing students with a safe and calming environment. The room has trampolines, play tunnels, and noise-canceling headphones to help students manage their emotions. Principal Pamela Freeman and Special Program Coordinator Anngelica Carter believe this space will support students' daily learning and development.
With New Floors
Mabelvale Elementary upgraded its campus with new flooring. This change will help reduce allergens and support better sanitation practices. The school is creating a healthier environment for staff and students by removing the old carpet. The new floors are part of ongoing efforts to improve the learning experience at Mabelvale Elementary.
Hosts First Sports Game in New Facility
Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy made history with its first-ever sports game in the brand-new facility. The volleyball team enthusiastically took to the court, marking an exciting milestone for the school. Students and staff cheered on the Lions, celebrating this special moment.

Explore College-Level Learning with LRSD's Advanced Placement Program
The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.

The Little Rock Farmers Market is wrapping up its 50th season this weekend. Throughout the summer, it welcomed visitors to the River Market with its farm-fresh produce, locally crafted foods, and handmade arts and crafts. As it has since 1996, the market invites SNAP beneficiaries, offering tokens purchasable on-site and participating in the Double Up Food Bucks program. Make sure to head out to the River Market this weekend for the last event of the season.
The Arkansas Comic Con will be held at the Statehouse Convention Center from September 6th to 8th, 2024. This three-day event will feature celebrity guests, fan panels, costume contests, and more. The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra invites the community to the grand opening of the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center on Saturday, September 14, 2024. The celebration includes a downtown parade, outdoor festivities, and a full lineup of free concerts starting at 11:00 a.m. Families can enjoy activities and performances throughout the day, with a special Masquerade Party in Morgan Hall in the evening. The 6th Annual North Little Rock Free Shred & Recycle Event is set for Saturday, September 21, from 9 AM to 12 PM at First Orion in Argenta.
