Novice Teacher Bootcamp and Orientation
It's been an exciting week for our educators as they participated in LRSD's Novice Teacher Academy. Yesterday's Novice Teacher Bootcamp offered new teachers valuable support and practical strategies for student success. Today, the New Employee Orientation continued, equipping first-year educators with essential tools and insights into our workplace culture. These events are paving the way for a successful school year ahead!

New Coaching Staff Members at LR Southwest
Eight exceptional LRSD students have been accepted into the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Donaghey Scholars Honors Program. This prestigious program provides full tuition, a stipend, and additional support, including a study abroad opportunity. The selection process underscores their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements. Congrats to these scholars on their remarkable accomplishments and future success!
Tiger Academy at Little Rock Central High School saw over 460 students participate this week. Head Counselor Mr. Kim Williams provided essential advice on graduating successfully, while Craig O'Neill and Principal Nancy Rousseau engaged in a light-hearted debate over who the true "Number One" Tiger is. Summer Music Festival
The 14th Annual "A Work of Art" Summer Music Festival, a jazz series and scholarship fundraiser, recently launched with the City of Little Rock. LRSD students took center stage to celebrate the legacies of Art Porters, Sr. and Jr., educators/musicians who profoundly influenced our city's cultural scene. The summer program also includes workshops and a week of live entertainment supported by Art Porter Music Education, Inc. We are so proud of these students!
Little Rock School District students recently took part in the Lorenzo Smith Band Camp, a collaborative initiative with the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. The camp offered students in grades 6th-12th an enriching experience, focusing on music theory, cooperation among band members, and improvisation. Designed for young musicians who are "motivated and excited about music," the camp provided essential skills to help them pursue their passion. Participants left inspired and equipped with new knowledge to excel in their musical journeys.
A few talented alumni from Roberts Elementary School showcased their skills on ESPN+ as they competed in the Little League Regional Tournament. These students have already made their mark by becoming state Little League Champs and now represent Arkansas in this exciting event. We couldn't be prouder of their hard work and dedication. Reading Tip #5: Create a Reading List
Create a list of at least five books for your child to read each week. Let them choose their books in advance and write down the list together. Display the list on the fridge and cross off each book once they have been completed. You can even create some incentives by rewarding a prize for each book completed.
The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.
