Six educators from the Little Rock School District have been selected for the 2024-2025 Teach Plus Arkansas Policy Fellowship. The LRSD educators selected as 2024-2025 Policy Fellows are Anthony Bland, Gwendolyn Critton, Jennifer Ekeanyanwu, Kimberly Trotter, and Kimberly Washington. Additionally, Tiffaney Lewis was selected as a Senior Policy Fellow. This fellowship empowers teachers to take on leadership roles and influence education policy across the state. Their work will focus on issues like early literacy, mental health awareness, and supporting diverse teaching staff. We are proud of these dedicated educators and look forward to their impact on Arkansas education!
Parkview Senior Featured on Arkansas Style for Organizing a Blood DriveMcKenzye Webster, a senior at Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School, was recently featured on Arkansas Style for organizing a blood drive at her church. The event will be held on September 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with proceeds benefiting Dorcas House. Donors will receive a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt and free entry to the Little Rock Zoo. Join McKenzye in supporting this great cause and making a positive impact on the community!
Students across LRSD are encouraged to enter the Arkansas Peace Week Art and Essay Contests, open to grades 1-12. Contest winners will receive cash prizes, and selected entries will be featured at the Arkansas State Capitol this November. The deadline for submissions is September 27, 2024. The Little Rock School District has renewed its partnership with Rock Region Metro, now in its seventh year. This partnership allows LRSD students and staff to ride all buses and use the Metro Connect program with a sticker on their district ID or badge. Watson Elementary School recently revealed a new mural in its cafeteria, created by Little Rock School District alum Mr. Willie Love. The mural reflects the school's pride and connection to the Southwest Little Rock community. Students and staff are excited to see their school's spirit come to life through art.
Stephens Elementary launched its first Bank Day of the school year this week! Students participated in teller interviews and training to prepare for managing Kids Saving accounts. This hands-on experience promotes financial literacy and empowers students to take charge of their finances. A special thank you to First Security Bank for making this opportunity possible!
Superintendent, Dr. Jermall Wright, recently visited Pinnacle View Middle School to join Band III students in a rhythm counting exercise. As a former alto saxophone player, the band has always held a special place in his heart. Dr. Wright couldn’t resist jumping in, and though he joked about his rusty skills, he had a blast connecting with the students.
Heidi Schreck's groundbreaking play, What the Constitution Means to Me, is coming to the Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church from September 11-21. This critically acclaimed production, which received two Tony Award nominations, humorously and poignantly explores the impact of the U.S. Constitution across generations of women. The play also supports LRSD speech and debate teams; using a special school code at checkout will donate $5 to teams from Central High, Parkview High, Hall-West, and Pinnacle View Middle. Explore College-Level Learning with LRSD's Advanced Placement Program
The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra invites the community to the grand opening of the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
