This week marks 67 years since the Little Rock Nine courageously integrated Central High School, a defining moment in the fight for equality. Their determination reshaped history, embodying the values of ambition, opportunity, and perseverance. LRSD is proud to honor their legacy and share their story with new generations.
J.A. Fair, Pulaski Heights, and Forest Heights students attended the 67th Commemoration of the Little Rock Nine desegregating Central. They heard from Keith Beauchamp, director of The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till and producer of Till. Beauchamp shared his experiences uncovering the truth behind Emmett Till’s case. Students also had the honor of meeting members of the Little Rock Nine.
Little Rock Central High School students participated in a special event at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center with Dr. Terrence J. Roberts, one of the Nine. Actor Brent Jennings led the program, reflecting on the school’s historic desegregation. Several students asked insightful questions, engaging in meaningful conversations about the Nine's legacy.
This week, LRSD held another successful Town Hall meeting with Board Member Evelyn Callaway and City Director Brenda Wyrick. Community members gathered at West Central Community Center to discuss school year calendars, cell phone policies, and the district’s strategic planning. Valuable feedback was shared to help shape LRSD's future. Next week’s meetings will continue the conversation at McDermott on Wednesday and Terry on Thursday!
Central High Celebrates Largest Group of Commended Scholars in School History
Thirteen Little Rock Central High seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program, marking the largest group in school history. This prestigious recognition places them among the top students in the nation. Though they will not advance in the competition, their academic achievements are a source of pride for the entire LRSD community. Congratulations to these students!
The Little Rock Southwest SuperSonic Storm of Southwest Band made history by winning 1st Place in Division 1 for Overall Band and Overall Auxiliary at The Delta Classic Field Show Competition. This marks their first field show victory, adding to the over 30 trophies they’ve earned in just five years. The band’s hard work and dedication paid off in a major way. Congratulations to S3 on this outstanding achievement!
Forest Park Elementary students shared a fantastic Patriotic Assembly filled with music and pride. Student Council Vice President Alice Patterson welcomed attendees while Girl Scout Troop #6009 proudly presented the colors. Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Barbara Webb gave an inspiring speech, and the students sang patriotic songs under the guidance of Music Teacher David Higginbotham. The event was a touching celebration of unity and patriotism.
LRSD Students Get Crafty atThis past weekend, several LRSD students and teachers participated in the 17th Annual Thea Paves the Way event at the Clinton Presidential Library. The event began in 2005 and has grown into a vibrant celebration of community art, attracting over 500 participants. Attendees created stunning sidewalk chalk art while enjoying face painting and entertainment. LRSD is proud of our students and staff for their creativity and commitment to this collaborative project!
The first Superintendent’s Citation Program of the year showcased the remarkable accomplishments of Little Rock School District students and staff. This special evening honored those who have excelled academically and made significant contributions to their communities. The dedication and hard work of our LRSD family are truly commendable, and we look forward to celebrating their continued success!
Keltin and Carnell, two EAST students, showcased their skills at McDermott Elementary's annual Peace Day by capturing the perfect photo with a drone. After completing FAA training and the TRUST exam, they not only piloted the drone but also helped plan the ideal layout to avoid shadows in the shot. Their teamwork and professionalism made this event a success, highlighting the talent of the Stephen's Stars!
Join Parkview Senior McKenzye Webster this Saturday, September 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in NLR for a blood drive. Advanced Placement Program
The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.

ONE KOREAN, led by Chang Heon Lee, will host its 8th Annual Scholarship Banquet later this year. Since 2017, the organization has awarded scholarships to 146 students, totaling $146,000. This year, the goal is to provide scholarships to 30 more students while continuing donations to local Korean schools and community members in need.
