Our Students Love Hitting Their Targets!

Bet you didn't know we had elementary archery teams?!

Williams’ Archery Team attended a tournament last weekend and placed 4th! Way to go, Williams and sponsor Ms. Staci Hula!

Oh, the Places These LRSD Students Will Go...

Williams’ DI teams attended a fun-filled day of Instant Challenges to help hone their “out-of-the-box” problem-solving skills two weekends ago.  Forest Heights STEM and Gibbs also had teams in attendance. These teams and many others across Arkansas will compete in the State DI Tournament on March 11th. First-place teams in each problem and age division will earn a spot at DI Globals in May, held in Kansas City, Mo.  Congratulations!

Awesome job by the LRCH Tigers during Friday's "Pink-Out" night.  They presented a ceremonial check to UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, representing proceeds from their pink t-shirt fundraiser.  Additional donations were also collected during the games.  A "shout out' to the community for your tremendous support!

Storytime With Pastors

The Little Rock School District is big on literacy! We are always looking for ways to get our students to develop a passion for reading. Storytime with Pastors is one of our many efforts designed to instill that passion in our youngest students. This week, students at Forest Heights STEM Academy were paid a visit by faith-based community members who volunteered to read to students as part of the Volunteers in Public Schools program.

Getting Hooked on Literacy with a Little Friendly Competition -
Thanks to THV's Craig O'Neill

What a blast!  McDermott Elementary students enjoyed hearing from THV's Craig O'Neill this week as part of his commitment to promoting reading among students and his partnership with local schools.  Craig introduced the book bracket contest, much like "March Madness," where he teams up with another reader, and students select which book they like best.  The winning book advances to the next round - until an ultimate winner is declared.  Thanks, Craig, for your devotion to and passion for reading and kids!  BTW, the championship round takes place at Stephens Elementary.  Can't wait to see which book survives!

Celebrating CTE Month
These LRSD Students are Serious about Certification

Students in the pre-nursing career pathway were in-class Friday, training to become Phlebotomists. They gave up a day out of school to earn this certification. Talk about their level of commitment!
