Roberts Elementary Leads State in Piloting New Life-Saving Initiative - Project ADAM

If a student or staff member experienced cardiac arrest, would school staff know what to do? Because timely response can mean the difference between life and death, Don Roberts Elementary School has partnered with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services (MEMS), and the Little Rock Fire Department (LRFD) to pilot the Project ADAM Heart Safe School Program.

Through this project, a school will successfully implement a quality sudden cardiac arrest program of awareness, training, and effective emergency response to promote a safe environment for students, visitors, and staff, as outlined within the Heart Safe School Checklist. Following a practice drill Thursday by Roberts’ staff members, the campus now becomes Arkansas’ first certified Heart Safe School. As the first LRSD school pilot, Roberts will serve as a model to other schools in Arkansas. Training is underway now for LRSD employees at sites throughout the District.
