LRSD Continues to Evolve with the Times with its Ignite Digital Academy Launch

During the height of the pandemic LRSD had to adapt to the digital learning landscape in order to best meet the needs of the families and students it serves. Last school year, plenty of students thrived learning virtually and we would like to continue to provide and maximize that option for them.

As we head into the summer and prepare for the upcoming school year, it is apparent that the Ignite Digital Academy is going to be an enriching option. Building on the resources and information learned last school year, the Academy will be a huge improvement from the former virtual option provided. We're so excited about this upcoming school year and encourage any family who would benefit from this option to take advantage.

Caught Doing Good

Dr. Ericka McCarroll, Aspiring Leadership Institute coordinator, shared that Ms. Beatriz Varela went above and beyond as a leader with the One Rock One Book initiative. Dr. McCarroll also said that even though Ms. Varela is a secondary educator, she dove right into the elementary realm and was pivotal in making the initiative successful! Mr. Poore also bragged that  Ms. Varela was involved in efforts geared toward helping Hispanic communities have access to vaccines and become teachers, and was instrumental in the legislative process that made it easier for DACA students to become teachers. Ms. Varela has been with the district for 12 years. She started out as a Spanish teacher but really found her passion when she pivoted to teaching ESL.  Thank you so much, Ms. Varela, for your hard work and dedication to the students you impact daily and our District overall. You can watch this extremely touching video here

Real Deal in the Rock Taking Place This Weekend at LR Southwest High!

Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet

“Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” is public art with a purpose, featuring 26 beautiful globes that vividly present solutions to climate change and make it clear…we can solve this. Each of the massive globes was created by a different artist, including four brand new globes designed by local creatives. The globes will be displayed throughout the Clinton Presidential Park.

“Cool Globes” is a public art exhibition designed to raise awareness of solutions to climate change. Founder Wendy Abrams announced “Cool Globes” as a Commitment to Action during the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in 2005. The exhibit premiered in Chicago the next year and has since been displayed in dozens of cities throughout the country and around the world.
