'Dads Take Your Child to School' Contest

The results are in! We’re excited to celebrate our top winners in the "Dads Take Your Child to School" contest! These winners will be invited to a special lunch with Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright. Information about the lunch, along with the complete list of winners, will be announced soon. Congratulations to everyone who participated, and a special shoutout to our top five winners, featured in the graphic above. Thank you for being engaged and making this contest a success!

Congratulations to Frank Bee, Jr. for winning a top prize in the "Dads Take Your Child to School" contest! Frank had a blast at the Razorback game against UAPB last night at War Memorial Stadium. A big thank you to Muskie Harris for generously donating the tickets.

 National Network Chiefs for Change

Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright has joined Chiefs for Change, a national network of education leaders. This group is dedicated to advancing policies that make a difference for students nationwide. Dr. Wright’s leadership and equity commitment have significantly impacted our district, and his inclusion in this network is a testament to his efforts. We look forward to seeing the positive changes from this collaboration.

LRSD Students Excel in Metro/Baptist Health College LPN Program

Students from Hall/West, Central, and Parkview High Schools are excelling in the Metro/Baptist Health College LPN program. Their hard work and dedication are truly commendable. Thanks to a $194,000 grant from OSD, LRSD is proud to support this valuable career training opportunity. It’s a fantastic way for students to invest in their futures!

Spirit Squads Visit Students at
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy

It was a great day at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and Language Magnet Academy! Spirit squads from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped by to pump up the students before their big game at War Memorial Stadium. The squads brought their best cheers, interacted with the students, and spread plenty of school spirit. The energy was contagious, leaving everyone hyped for the game!

Western Hills Elementary Opens New Sensory 
Room for Students with Autism

Western Hills Elementary School has introduced a new sensory room as part of its new autism program, providing students with a safe and calming environment. The room has trampolines, play tunnels, and noise-canceling headphones to help students manage their emotions. Principal Pamela Freeman and Special Program Coordinator Anngelica Carter believe this space will support students' daily learning and development.

Mabelvale Elementary Enhances Campus
 With New Floors

Mabelvale Elementary upgraded its campus with new flooring. This change will help reduce allergens and support better sanitation practices. The school is creating a healthier environment for staff and students by removing the old carpet. The new floors are part of ongoing efforts to improve the learning experience at Mabelvale Elementary.

Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy
Hosts First Sports 
Game in New Facility

Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy made history with its first-ever sports game in the brand-new facility. The volleyball team enthusiastically took to the court, marking an exciting milestone for the school. Students and staff cheered on the Lions, celebrating this special moment.

Entry to Athletic Events

We're taking our ticket game to the next level! LRSD is teaming up with GoFan for a seamless, paperless experience at all athletic events. Fans can now purchase tickets online or on their phone by visiting GoFan.co, searching for their school, and selecting the event. Paper tickets will no longer be available for purchase at the events. Explore College-Level Learning with LRSD's Advanced Placement Program

The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.

Little Rock Farmer's Market Wraps Up its 
50th Season This Weekend

The Little Rock Farmers Market is wrapping up its 50th season this weekend. Throughout the summer, it welcomed visitors to the River Market with its farm-fresh produce, locally crafted foods, and handmade arts and crafts. As it has since 1996, the market invites SNAP beneficiaries, offering tokens purchasable on-site and participating in the Double Up Food Bucks program. Make sure to head out to the River Market this weekend for the last event of the season.

Join the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra for the Grand Opening of Stella Boyle Smith Music Center

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra invites the community to the grand opening of the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center on Saturday, September 14, 2024. The celebration includes a downtown parade, outdoor festivities, and a full lineup of free concerts starting at 11:00 a.m. Families can enjoy activities and performances throughout the day, with a special Masquerade Party in Morgan Hall in the evening. All events are free and open to the public.

North Little Rock Hosts Free 
Shred & Recycle Event

The 6th Annual North Little Rock Free Shred & Recycle Event is set for Saturday, September 21, from 9 AM to 12 PM at First Orion in Argenta. This event offers a convenient way to responsibly dispose of items like plastic and glass bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard. Participants are encouraged to ensure bottles and cans are rinsed before recycling.

Food Truck Festival!

The 13th Annual Downtown Food Truck Festival is set to bring even more excitement this year with a new location on Capitol Avenue. On Sunday, September 22nd, from 11 am to 6 pm, over 60 food trucks, vendors, and live music will line the streets, serving up delicious bites and good vibes. Central High School Senior Builds Friendships and 
Changes Lives Through Nonprofit

Jackson Jones, a Little Rock Central High School senior, was featured this week on KATV for his nonprofit, Fostering Friendships. It's dedicated to creating meaningful connections between high school students and children in foster care or at risk of entering the system. His efforts have brightened the lives of the children involved and inspired his peers to join the cause. Jones plans to continue his impactful work as he pursues a future in entrepreneurship and nonprofit leadership. Great work!

Little Rock School District Presented with $300,000 Check in Phase One of the 2024 Renew America's Schools Prize and Grant

The Little Rock School District is proud to announce its recognition as a Winner and Selectee of the 2024 Renew America’s Schools Prize and Grant. This award, administered by the U.S. Department of Energy, supports critical upgrades in energy efficiency and indoor air quality for 17 schools within the District. LRSD partnered with Energia and Protect|ED to secure a $300,000 prize and a cooperative agreement valued at over $11 million. The District will now work with Energia to conduct a comprehensive energy assessment to prioritize necessary improvements.

Head Drum Major

Taryn, a dedicated musician and student, has been a key band member since 2021, excelling in her musical talents and academics. Gibbs Elementary Welcomes
Exchange Students 
from Madagascar

Gibbs Elementary students had the unique opportunity to meet two exchange students from Madagascar this week. The visitors shared fascinating details about their country and its culture. They also joined the class in practicing French, making the experience both educational and interactive. The visit provided a meaningful way for students to broaden their global understanding.

HELLO, DOLLY! at The Rep Features LRSD Stars and Parkview Alum as Director

Two of LRSD's very own will star in The Rep's upcoming production of HELLO, DOLLY! Forest Heights STEM Academy music teacher Satia Spencer and drama educator Dariane LyJoi Mull are performing in this iconic musical at the Robinson Center from August 22-24. The show is also directed by Ken Matt Martin, a Parkview High School graduate and LRSD alum. This Broadway classic features a lively and charming storyline enhanced by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. We proudly support our talented educators and graduates as they showcase their incredible skills on stage!

LR Southwest's Dr. Justice Mason Named
 a Society for Science Advocate

Dr. Justice Mason of Little Rock Southwest High School has been selected as an Advocate by the Society for Science for the 2024-2025 school year. This prestigious program recognizes 100 educators nationwide committed to enhancing STEM education and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds. As an Advocate, Dr. Mason will receive specialized training, financial support, and year-round resources to help guide students through STEM research and competitions. This honor highlights Dr. Mason's dedication to expanding opportunities and fostering a passion for science among his students. Congratulations!
