LRSD Students and Educators Honored at 2024 OWJEF Scholarship Gala

Six Little Rock School District students were honored as 2024 OWJEF Scholarship recipients this past weekend at the organization's annual gala. Along with the students, two LRSD educators were named Alma J. Washington Educators of the Year. These achievements underscore LRSD's dedication to academic excellence and teaching. Congratulations to the deserving recipients!

Celebrating Champions: Parkview and Central Athletes Honored for State Championship Wins

The Little Rock School District celebrated both Parkview and Central High School athletes for their state championship teams. First Security Bank provided food for a cookout to honor Parkview's football team. Meanwhile, Central High's boys and girls basketball teams were honored with a pizza party to commemorate their wins. The gatherings not only celebrated athletic excellence but also fostered a sense of community pride among students, faculty, and supporters alike.

Little Rock Central High School Secures Victory in 2024 State Quiz Bowl Tournament

Little Rock Central High School's Quiz Bowl team has a lot to be proud of after bringing home the 2024 State Tournament title. The students beat Rogers Heritage 380 to 180! The Tigers' dedication, knowledge, and teamwork were on full display as they whizzed through challenging questions, showcasing their academic excellence. Congratulations! Way to go, Tigers!

LRSD Signing Day Spectacular: Celebrating Athletic Achievements at Little Rock
Southwest and Central

Signing Day was a big deal at LRSD with events at multiple campuses. Little Rock Southwest celebrated the commitment of two standout athletes to college programs, showcasing the bright future ahead for these young talents. Meanwhile, at Little Rock Central, a similar event occurred where multiple student-athletes signed their letters of intent, marking the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. PHMS FBLA Triumphs at
State 
Leadership Conference

Pulaski Heights Middle School's FBLA chapter dominated the State Leadership Conference in Downtown Little Rock with 52 students in attendance, earning them the title of largest middle-level chapter in the state. An impressive 34 students are advancing to Nationals in Orlando this summer. Chicot Elementary Welcomes Author Ashley Franklin for a Supercharged Storytelling Experience

Chicot Elementary students had a blast last week as they welcomed the incredible author, Ashley Franklin, for a special visit and book signing event! Decked out in her superhero cape, Franklin read to K-2nd graders. From Arkansas herself, Franklin uses her books not only to entertain but empower, affirming self-esteem and connecting with readers of all ages. We're grateful for the opportunity to host such a talented author who uplifts and inspires our students!

Parkview Marching Band Secures Grand Championship at Viewer's Choice
Battle of the Bands

Parkview Marching Band emerged victorious at the Viewer's Choice Battle of the Bands in Atlanta, GA. Facing off against top high schools from around the nation, their performance earned them the Grand Championship title. Now, they're set to wow audiences at the upcoming Mardi Gras Parade in Mobile, AL, representing the Parkview Patriots with pride and musical excellence.

S3 at Little Rock Southwest Continues Racking Up Awards Adding to An Impressive Trophy Count

The “Supersonic Storm of Southwest”(S3) also participated in a separate Viewer’s Choice Battle of the Bands in Atlanta, GA, and earned 1st Runner-Up Trophy against nine of the best bands in the nation on April 20. (We're told this was a different event than the one mentioned above about Parkview on April 27th.) Also, this past Sunday, April 28th, S3 won the Grand Champion Trophy at the Fordyce Battle of the Bands!!! This brings the Gryphons award count to 29 trophies and plaques that the Southwest High School Band Program has earned thus far!!!  Way to go, S3 and Director Jose Holloway!
Forest Park Elementary 5th Graders Launch Into Space Camp Adventure!

Last weekend, Forest Park Elementary's 5th graders embarked on a journey to Space Camp at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Over the course of three days, they immersed themselves in hands-on learning about outer space travel, fostering a passion for science and exploration. This experience was made possible through the support and dedication of our community, ensuring our students reach for the stars both in and out of the classroom.

Preserve Our Past Art Contest

LRSD students showcased their artistic talents in the Preserve Our Past Art contest, with Khushi Rastogi earning 1st Place for her depiction of the historic Jacob Wolf Cabin. Ruth Par's charcoal drawing of the Hotze house and Jack Graves' rendition of the Arkansas State Capitol also received recognition, highlighting the district's commitment to fostering an appreciation for local history and heritage among its students. The student's artwork will be showcased at the Historic Arkansas Museum throughout May.

LRSD Announces Revised 2024-25 Calendar and Employee Workday Resolution

A revised 2024-25 student calendar has been approved during a recent Board of Education meeting, pending final approval by the State Board of Education. Additionally, the LRSD Board has passed a resolution regarding compensation for employees affected by school closures due to inclement weather in the 2023-24 school year. Employees can find more details in the Superintendent's Memo or by reaching out to their supervisors or the LRSD Human Resources Department. Your support and patience are greatly appreciated as we navigate through these important processes together.

LRSD and Caissa Continue Second Phase of Recruitment/Retention Partnership

The Little Rock School District continues phase two of its strategic partnership with Caissa, a leading educational organization focused on student recruitment and retention. Community members may recall LRSD’s pilot project with Caissa last summer that included phone calls, texts, and surveys, seeking feedback to better meet the needs of families. Caissa implements a diverse range of tools to showcase the assets of the districts with which they work to get students back in classrooms and to keep them there. If you get emails or calls/texts from 501-503-3168, 501-512-1656, or 501-260-7244 -they are legitimate communication from LRSD.

UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is excited to celebrate its 4th annual Be A Part of the Cure Walk. ​​​​​​​Register today as an individual or create a team, share the information with your friends and family, and help us get the word out! Enjoy the Kids Discovery Zone, local entertainment, patient stories, the chance to win some great prizes (must be present to win), and walk for the cure along a 1k or 5k course.
