Members of the Little Rock School District community and stakeholders toured the brand-new Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy today. Spanning three stories and 230,000 square feet, the campus unveiled 84 classrooms, a cafetorium, and a competition gymnasium, among other amenities. Notably, the District marked a milestone with the introduction of its first FEMA-certified tornado shelter, ensuring safety for generations to come. LRSD Board members got a sneak peek on Thursday.

Art Competition
Students from Little Rock West High School of Innovation participated in the Arkansas Young Artist Association competition this week, securing top honors in various categories. Cassidy Sites claimed the 1st place spot in Advertising Design, Sabrina Jones clinched 3rd in Digital Abstract, Caleb Beam received an honorable mention in Digital Abstract, and Ana Alvarez secured 4th place in Digital Realism. A revised 2024-25 student calendar has been approved during a recent Board of Education meeting, pending final approval by the State Board of Education. Additionally, the LRSD Board has passed a resolution regarding compensation for employees affected by school closures due to inclement weather in the 2023-24 school year. Employees can find more details in the Superintendent's Memo or by reaching out to their supervisors or the LRSD Human Resources Department. The Little Rock School District continues phase two of its strategic partnership with Caissa, a leading educational organization focused on student recruitment and retention. Community members may recall LRSD’s pilot project with Caissa last summer that included phone calls, texts, and surveys, seeking feedback to better meet the needs of families. Caissa implements a diverse range of tools to showcase the assets of the districts with which they work to get students back in classrooms and to keep them there. The Little Rock Farmers Market has opened its doors for its 50th season, welcoming visitors to the River Market with its farm-fresh produce, locally crafted foods, and handmade arts and crafts.
