Little Rock Nine's Elizabeth Eckford
 80th Birthday Celebration

We are honored to share in the 80th Birthday Celebration for beloved civil rights icon - Ms. Elizabeth Eckford.  Eckford, a member of the Little Rock Nine, has dedicated her life to educational causes.  LRCH Memory Project students hosted a drive-thru/walk-by celebration in Ms. Eckford's honor Monday in front of LRCH, a campus she helped integrate 64 years ago.  If you'd like to get in on tributes, you're invited to donate a book in her name to Central Arkansas Library System or Stephens Elementary LRSD.  Happy Birthday, Ms. Eckford!

 LRSD Among Major Players as
Academies of Central Arkansas
Achieve Major Milestone!

Yesterday, October 8, 2021 a special event was held to announce the official designation of  the Academies of Central Arkansas as the newest addition to the Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) network of schools. This is a huge deal as all four public school systems in Pulaski County have collaborated with the help of Ford NGL to make this day a reality.

This opportunity will allow students to receive more personalized learning with teachers that stay with them over the duration of their high school careers. This innovative model will provide students with real-world experiences that will increase their academic performance as a result of their core classes being taught through the lens of something that interests them.

"We use a mantra at LRSD called the Power of US, and I cannot think of a better application of that phrase than the commitment represented through this countywide Academies of Central Arkansas collaboration," said LRSD Supt. Mike Poore. "We are grateful for the partnership with neighboring districts, the Chamber, and business industry.  It takes all of us working together to ensure student success."

This week we are recognizing Ms. Jacy Hargis for being #CaughtDoingGood. Ms. Hargis spearheaded efforts to aid Pulaski Heights Elementary students in sending heartwarming messages and drawings to health care providers at Children's hospital, Baptist Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, and UAMS. PHE's principal Ms. Anna Lloyd commended Ms. Hargis on being adaptable and always going the extra mile for her students. What's even more special is witnessing her students eagerly agree to how amazing their teacher is. You can watch the full video here!

3 BIG THINGS: BLOOD PRESSURE

  • Nearly half of all Americans have high blood pressure, and many don't know they have it. Uncontrolled high blood pressure robs us of precious times with loved ones.
  • HBP is a silent killer that causes unnecessary and inequitable disease, disability, and death. It can cause heart attacks, heart failure, stroke and other devastating conditions.
  • Blood pressure can be largely controlled through a combination of lifestyle changes or medication or both. Together with our heroes, the AHA is uniquely positioned to help everyone have more time with those we love. Our Check. Change. Control., Target: BP, and self-measured blood pressure programs are just a few of the ways we're making a difference.

THIS MONTH’S HEART HEALTHY TIP IS… SODIUM CAN BE SNEAKY!

TIP:

Compare labels. Choose the item with the lesser amount of sodium.  Learn how to change your salty ways in only 21 days.
