Booker Elementary Gets a New Principal - At Least Temporarily!

Booker Arts Magnet third grader Giselle Vasquez Roman has been selected to become "Principal for a Day", where she will lead the school and perform "principal-ish" activities,  like passing out compliments and treats to the staff, working at the book fair, and selecting the classroom with the most school spirit, among other duties. Giselle will formally take the helm as student-principal on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

During the month of March, Booker Arts Magnet hosted a challenge for students to become the principal of the day using the Lexia Core5 Reading platform, which is a "comprehensive technology-based program that extends learning for students who are advanced" and accelerates learning for students who may face reading challenges.

To be considered for the "principal" job, every interested student had to make their usage goal for Lexia plus gain at least one level. Giselle was among 137 students who reached the goal and her name was pulled from the list of qualified candidates to become the principal for the day.

Mabelvale Middle's Library Team Beautifully Reorganized the School's Library!

Ms. Shan Kemp and Ms. Tasha Alexander did a fantastic job redecorating and reorganizing Mabelvale Middle's Library. These ladies beautifully sectioned the library off by genre for student access and engagement. Additionally, each section has been decorated with décor that reflects its genre.

It is apparent this library team took inclusivity into consideration while planning this set up as sections include literature from the Urban, Latino, and LGBT genres. To get a better view of their extremely thoughtful work, head over to Mabelvale Middle's Instagram page @mmsredraiders!
