Important 2019-2020 Assignment Notification Information
Attention LRSD Parents and Guardians:
We would like to provide an update regarding notifications of school assignments for the 2019-20 school year.
- Currently enrolled LRSD students, grades pre-K to 11thgrade, will receive next year’s assignment notification via an email to their student email addresses.
- A student’s email address is in the following format:
Example - Email address: First name.last name + (first three of student’s ID number)@student.lrsd.org
Password: Student’s ID number
The email notifications will be sent on Monday, February 18, 2019. For instructions on accessing your student's email, click here.
- Pre-registered students (NOT CURRENTLY ATTENDING A LRSD SCHOOL) will receive next year’s assignment notifications via regular mail. Letters for all pre-registered students will be mailed on Friday, February 15, 2019.
- Students who have applications for one of our pre-K programs will receive next year’s assignment notifications via regular mail February 25, 2019.

A Special Valentine's Day Visit for
Washington Elementary Students
Washington Elementary's 3rd grade Scholars took a trip to Parkway Heights Assisted Living Facility to show compassion to the residents by delivering hand made Valentine cards and goodies. The 3rd graders played games, sang songs, and spent quality time talking with the residents.

Great turnout for LRSD's annual Elementary Science Fair this past Saturday - more than 20 schools featured 120 projects by some pretty amazing students! #GreatJob, Joel Spencer, for organizing the event - and a special thanks to the parents who showed up to support their students, hanging out in the cafetorium at Roberts while awaiting word on the winners.
Mosaic Church Hosts Supt. Mike Poore to Share More on LRSD's Outreach Efforts
A special thanks to Mosaic Church and Pastors Mark DeYmaz and Harry Li for hosting LRSD Supt. Mike Poore last Sunday, February 10th, who shared more about the District's most recent outreach efforts: Poore Man on the Roof, and the donation drive to collect hygiene items for students and families; plus $1 donations to support #BrightFutures - LR, and LRSD's ViPS program. On behalf of the students and families who will benefit, we can't say thank you enough!

JAG Student Shadowing Event- Career Tech Ed Month
Career &
Technical Education (CTE) students from Parkview High School were given
the opportunity to shadow KARK/Fox 16 through Junior Achievement of Arkansas’
Ground Hog Job Shadow program, Friday, February 1, 2019. The students
toured the television station and observed newsrooms staff as they performed
their routine task. A very
special “Thank You” to News Anchor, Suzanne Brunner of KARK/Fox 16 and
Education Coordinator, Evan Jacobs of Junior Achievement!
2019 Nutrition Education Contest
The
Nutrition Committee of the Arkansas School Nutrition Association (ASNA), in
collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Child Nutrition
Unit (CNU), is sponsoring a nutrition poster contest. The poster contest theme
will be open for interpretation of promoting good health through nutrition. Art
students are encouraged to be creative through their artwork, keeping in mind,
good nutrition. Computer generated art as well as hand-drawn and painted art
will be accepted.
*Up for
grabs - $50 and a trophy for the 5 division winners at the state level; the
senior division winner at the state level will receive a $300 scholarship and a
trophy.
The
instructor/art teacher of each state level division winner will receive a $100
award to purchase classroom art supplies.
The Child
Nutrition Manager at the school of each state level winner will receive paid
ASNA dues for the year 2019.
In order
for district winners to be considered for state competition, the “Art Contest
Entry Form” posted below must be completed and emailed (send to kelly.doppelhammer@arkansas.gov)
NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MARCH 11, 2019. This district “Entry Form” is required to
ensure receipt of all district level winning artwork prior to judging.
Heart Healthy Recipe
Spaghetti-squash Spaghetti
Ingredients:
- 1 spaghetti squash (3 pounds)
- non-stick Cooking spray
- 1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
- O1 clove fresh garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp. jarred, minced garlic
- 1/2 small onion (chopped)
- O1 cup tomatoes (diced)
- 8 oz. canned, no-salt-added, diced tomatoes
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. dried, salt-free herbs, Italian blend
- 1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
- 16 oz. canned, no salt added tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup small "bite size" fresh mozzarella balls (can substitute fresh mozzarella), cut into bite-size pieces
- 1/4 cup coarsely chopped, or, torn basil
- 1 tsp. dried basil
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
1) Cut spaghetti squash in half. On a baking sheet coated with cooking spray, place halves of squash face down and bake for 1 hour or until tender.
2) Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and onion and cook until soft, about 5-7 minutes. Add diced tomatoes, pepper, herbs and red pepper flakes. Cook until liquid is evaporated, about 2-3 minutes. Add tomato sauce and reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
3) Let squash sit at room temperature until just cool enough to handle. Take a fork and scrap flesh from outside working in, creating “spaghetti noodles”.
4) Add squash "noodles" to sauce and remove from heat. Toss with mozzarella balls and fresh basil and serve.

Join us February 28 for Voices Without Borders,
a celebration in voice.
Performances by local elementary school students, led by Dr.
I.J. Routen. The theme is “Solid Gold,” hits from the 60s and 70s.
Shows begin at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the auditorium at
Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
