LRSD celebrates the rich history, culture, and contributions of African Americans. This month is a time to reflect, learn, and honor the impact of Black leaders past and present.
Speaking of Black History...
LRSD recognizes highly sought-after actor, educator, director, and writer Steve Broadnax III. Broadnax has over 20 years of experience in regional theater, is currently co-head of the MFA directing program at Pennsylvania State University, and has a Broadway directorial debut to his credit. Do you know which LRSD high school he attended?Carver STEAM Magnet Elementary School kicked off Black History Month with an assembly in the cafeteria on Monday! Students and staff came together to honor the history, culture, and achievements of African Americans through special presentations. The celebration continues next week with Spirit Week, featuring a new theme each day!
Little Rock Central High School’s Mr. Colton Gilbert has been inducted into the prestigious Barkley Forum Gold Key Society at Emory University. He is only the second such coach in Arkansas history to receive this honor, recognizing his dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion in competitive debate. Congratulations!
Impressive! Hall-West High School’s Student Government Association officers had the unique opportunity to serve as pages in the Arkansas Senate. Sabrina Jones, Vera Kanu, Joshua Morehart, Micah Moore, Dalton Palmer, and Jerrick Whitted assisted Senators Fredrick Love and Clarke Tucker while gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process. This opportunity allowed them to engage with state leaders and see government in action. Their dedication and leadership continue to make Hall-West High and LRSD proud!
Little Rock Central High School’s Jason McCann kicked off The American Student art show at Thea Foundation on Thursday night. Guests enjoyed an evening of art, conversation, and refreshments from Heritage Catering. The exhibition, sponsored by Delta Dental of Arkansas, highlights McCann’s unique perspective and talent. Those who missed the opening can still visit the gallery during the Argenta Third Friday Art Walk on February 21 or during regular gallery hours, Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
National Signing Day was a proud moment for student-athletes across LRSD. Central High School’s STEM Fair featured several student projects, making it one of the largest yet. From AI-driven cancer research to skyscraper design, students explored cutting-edge topics with creativity and precision.
