Now Competing for State Spelling Bee Title
Congratulations to Yolanda Shelton of Forest Heights STEM Academy and Erica Moore of Little Rock Central High School who have been recognized as Central Arkansas Elementary and Secondary Counselors of the Year. This honor highlights their dedication to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. Both will be honored this summer at the Arkansas School Counselor Conference. LRSD is proud to celebrate their outstanding contributions to student success.
Little Rock Southwest High School DECA Marketing students earned top honors at the State Career Development Conference in Hot Springs. Kaitlyn Braswell, Kayla Caldwell, Omarai Williams, Sapharia Dobbins, and Deonta Mitchell each received a medallion in their respective events. Jonathan Worrell placed 2nd in the state in Human Resource Management, earning a glass plaque and a spot at the National Conference in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations to these students on their outstanding achievements!
Excels in All-State Auditions
Eighteen Little Rock Central High Choir members earned spots in the 2025 Arkansas All-State Choirs. Of the 28 students who auditioned, 17 scored 20/26 or higher in sight-reading, with nine earning perfect scores. Under the direction of Christy Fudge, these talented vocalists will perform at the All-State Clinics and Concerts on February 20-22 in Hot Springs. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians!
at Parkview
Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School has promoted Bobby Bolding to Head Football Coach. With over 30 years of experience, he has been instrumental in Parkview’s success, serving as defensive coordinator during three consecutive championship seasons. Coach Bolding has a proven track record, leading multiple teams to state titles and earning recognition as one of Arkansas’s most accomplished high school coaches. His leadership and commitment to student-athletes will continue to elevate Parkview’s football program.
Parkview music students had the chance to hear from Eric Fells, a Berklee College of Music graduate and former Parkview student. As a musician, composer, producer, and teacher, he shared his experiences and insights with the students. His visit was a powerful reminder of the impact of hard work and passion in the music industry. Fells now joins the staff at JA Fair as music teacher. We are lucky to have him!

Brady Elementary has earned the Project ADAM Heart Safe School designation, demonstrating its commitment to emergency preparedness. With support from LRSD Health Services, Arkansas Children's Hospital, and local first responders, staff have trained to respond effectively to medical emergencies. This recognition highlights ongoing efforts to keep students, staff, and families safe. Way to go, Brady!
Artist and LRSD alum Trevor Bennett visited Ms. Jordan Wolf’s ceramics class at Hall-West School of Innovation, sharing his expertise in contemporary ceramics. He discussed career opportunities in the field and guided students through a hands-on wheel-throwing workshop. His visit provided an inspiring and creative experience for future artists.
Students at Little Rock Central High School are continuing Daisy Bates’ legacy through The Memory Project, an initiative that connects them with the oral history of civil and human rights. Their efforts were recently featured in a PBS blog and will be highlighted in the upcoming Arkansas PBS documentary, Unveiled: Daisy Bates and Johnny Cash. Through hands-on, intergenerational learning, these students are preserving and sharing powerful stories from the past. See the blog here.

Bright Futures Little Rock is organizing a coat drive to support students and families in need across LRSD. As winter approaches, the community is encouraged to donate new or gently used coats. The Little Rock School District invites non-profits to join as Community Service-Learning partners. With community service hours now a graduation requirement for Arkansas high school students, LRSD aims to connect students with meaningful volunteer opportunities. Non-profit organizations can apply to become approved partners, allowing students to support their events and initiatives. The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.
