State-of-the-Art Field House at Central
The Little Rock School District celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the new state-of-the-art field house at Little Rock Central High School. The 58,000-square-foot facility includes a 40-yard indoor practice field, weight and locker rooms, and will serve multiple sports teams. Students, staff, elected officials, and community members attended the ceremony, with tours provided afterward. This new addition is another step forward in improving resources for our student-athletes.
The Little Rock School District’s 50th Annual College Night was a tremendous success! Students and families had the opportunity to meet with college representatives, connect with alumni, and explore military options. The event offered valuable resources, including financial aid workshops and personalized information provided by more than 72 vendors.
Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School recently renamed its film room in honor of former football standout, James Rouse. Rouse, a Parkview graduate, went on to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks before being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1990. The newly named James Rouse Film Room celebrates his contributions to the school and his athletic legacy. Parkview is proud to honor one of their own with this special dedication.
Students at Washington Elementary helped load baby formula onto a trailer headed for North Carolina to support hurricane relief efforts. The formula was donated from the school’s pantry to aid families affected by the storm. Their efforts highlight the importance of helping those in need during challenging times. We are proud of our students for their dedication to making a difference!
Mabelvale Middle School teacher Ms. Jessica Key recently showcased her talents on Fox's TV game show The Floor. After a rigorous selection process that spanned from March to June, she flew to Dublin, Ireland, on July 26 to film the show. Recording began on Monday, with long days of shooting ten hours for two episodes each day. This incredible experience promises to be one to remember—be sure to tune in to the next episode to see how Ms. Key performed!
Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School held its 27th annual "Tales of the Crypt" performance at Mount Holly Cemetery on Sunday. Students guided hundreds of attendees on a walking tour through the historic site. Along the way, Parkview students performed scenes they researched and wrote about the lives of Arkansans buried there. The event offered a unique blend of history, art, and storytelling.
Londyn Giles, a student at Hall-West STEAM Magnet High School, recently shared her personal experiences with Purdue University’s graduate students. She spoke about her autism diagnosis and offered valuable tips on improving speech and ABA therapy. Londyn also discussed ways to strengthen relationships between students, parents, and professionals. Her insights were featured by Purdue's Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and College of Education.

LRSD Health Services Team Honored with State and Conference Awards
The Little Rock School District celebrates the accomplishments of several outstanding health service employees. Rae Rice has been recognized as one of the top 100 nurses in Arkansas for her exemplary service, both in LRSD and as the Pulaski County Nurse Honor Guard Leader. At the 15th Anniversary School-Based Health Conference, Jaime Combs, Mary Otwell, and Director Jacqueline McEuen received the Pioneer Award for Vision Services. Additionally, Mary Otwell earned the Advocacy Award: SBHAAR, highlighting her commitment to advancing health services in schools. Congratulations to all of these employees!
The Little Rock School District, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Health, is hosting its annual flu clinics at all LRSD schools. Students can receive the flu vaccine free of charge, but only with completed paperwork, including signed ADH and FERPA consent forms. Chicot Elementary scholars had the privilege of meeting award-winning author and illustrator Vanessa Brantley-Newton during the Six Bridges Book Festival. She led engaging assemblies, art workshops, and a writing session, inspiring students to embrace their creativity. Her message about celebrating individuality resonated with everyone, and many students received signed books.
Students at Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School participated in the Be Pro Be Proud mobile workshop. The hands-on experience gave students a chance to explore various skilled trade professions and discover potential career paths. This interactive event allowed students to engage with tools and technology used in industries like construction, welding, and more.
Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy's Public Service Leadership program welcomed Dr. Terrance Roberts, a member of the Little Rock Nine, who shared his powerful experiences with our student leaders. His insights on overcoming adversity inspired students. The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Leadership Institute also featured Little Rock City Director and Attorney Antwan Phillips. Thanks to Chick-fil-A, our 6th-8th graders are set to begin a transformative 5-week leadership curriculum!
Pulaski Heights Middle School's FBLA members enjoyed a trip to BoBrook Farms, where they explored the pumpkin patch and learned about local farming practices. Their visit included picking pumpkins, which they later delivered to Briarwood Nursing Home as part of their community service project. This experience not only highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses but also brought joy to the residents at Briarwood.
Central High School is excited to host the Hispanic Heritage Month Parade of Colors on Monday morning. Students from English Language Development, Spanish for Native Speakers, and members of LULAC will proudly showcase their native clothing and colors while carrying flags and banners. The parade will start on the fourth floor at 9:55 AM and wind through the school, culminating in a celebration at the freshman courtyard. This vibrant event will highlight the rich cultural heritage of our students and is a wonderful opportunity for the entire school community to come together.
Washington Elementary hosted a special Peace-Za Party to honor 25 students for their outstanding artwork submitted during Peace Week. Each artist enjoyed a delicious pizza celebration, showcasing their creativity and commitment to promoting peace in the community.

The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.

ONE KOREAN, led by Chang Heon Lee, will host its 8th Annual Scholarship Banquet later this year. Since 2017, the organization has awarded scholarships to 146 students, totaling $146,000. This year, the goal is to provide scholarships to 30 more students while continuing donations to local Korean schools and community members in need.
