Open Enrollment Extended Through January 11, 2019
LRSD has implemented a new electronic registration
process and we are aware that some of
our patrons may need additional time to apply on the Gateway system. Therefore, we are
extending the Open Enrollment period until the close of the business day
January 11, 2019. The extension will not impact on the date parents will be
notified of the 2019-2020 assignments.

Highlights/Events
Last year, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's (ASO) Quapaw
Quartet visited Carver Magnet Elementary and students had an opportunity to
create an artistic response to ASO’s “Picturing Music.” It is exciting news to
learn that Caiden Ross's artwork will be featured on this year's postcard that
the ASO is sending out to its patrons. Congratulations Caiden!
Mann Middle Student, Imani Carpenter, receives
Youth Leadership Award
Current and former LRSD staffers attended the Stand Foundation Gala in support of Mann Magnet Middle School's Imani Carpenter. Imani was honored with the foundation's Youth Leadership Award for her outstanding academic accomplishments and civic/community/ involvement. Congratulations Imani, and proud Principal Keith McGee.
LRSD also wishes to congratulate long-time community partner Ed Choate, Delta Dental, who was recognized as well.
Booker T. Washington Students Enjoy Educational Magic Show on Electrical Safety
Scott Davis presented an entertaining and educational
magic show, Making Accidents Disappear, to 3rd – 5th grade students at
Washington Elementary School. The program is sponsored by the Electric
Cooperatives of Arkansas and teaches students about electrical safety.

3rd Annual Carver Magnet Lip Sync Battle was a Success!
We had a great night with our Lip Sync Battle and raised
over $500 to help send students to Space Camp. This was Carver's 3rd annual
competition and the talent just keeps getting better and better each year.
Thank you to EVERYONE involved in making this event successful!

LRSD Has Three Schools Named to Top 25 Y.E.S. Competition (January 25)
A “smart cane” to help the visually impaired better overcome obstacles, designer clothing forcanines, bounce balls shaped like space rocks, aromatherapy slime, and a portable flower garden are among the top 25 business ideas judged this week to be the best in the state for Arkansas Capital Corporation’s 2019 Youth Entrepreneur Showcase (Y.E.S.) for Arkansas 5th – 8th grade business plan competition, sponsored by Simmons Bank. These 25 finalist teams will be coming to Park Plaza in Little Rock for the 14th annual Y.E.S. for Arkansas Expo Day, Friday, January 25, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Nearly 130 teams from 31 elementary, middle, and junior high schools in 12 counties submitted business plans and presented to more than 50 judges to make it to Expo Day. Congrats to our teams from Henderson, Pinnacle View and Pulaski Heights Middle Schools, are still in the running for prizes. Let's cheer them on Friday, January 25th! Good luck, teams!
Central High Junior Earns Prestigious Appearance at
Carnegie Hall
Kate Kelly a junior
at Little Rock Central High School
has been selected for the 2019 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall
in New York City and the Sydney Opera House.
Kate will
perform Alto 2 vocals with the Honors Choir in February at Carnegie Hall and in
August at the Sydney Opera House. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited
to the highest-rated high school performers from across the world. This is pretty awesome! Kate, your LRSD family is so proud of you!
