Hall-West High Joins Wakefield Elementary in 
Most Recent Recognition for Beating the Odds

Wakefield Elementary and Hall-West High School of Innovation honored by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas for outstanding student growth on the ATLAS exams. These schools earned the prestigious Beating the Odds recognition, highlighting their success in helping students achieve high academic growth despite serving many students participating in Free and Reduced Lunch programs. These distinctions are based on 2024 content growth scores from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, measuring how much students improved compared to their peers statewide. Congratulations to Wakefield Elementary and Hall-West High on this well-earned recognition!

LRSD GT Specialists Honored with
AGATE Recognition Awards

Mrs. Charlotte Cook-Bomar of Watson Elementary and Mrs. Krystal Williams of Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy have received the AGATE Educator Recognition Award. Mrs. Cook-Bomar also received the Curriculum Award for outstanding work in gifted education. LRSD celebrates these incredible educators for dedication to supporting and inspiring GT students!

Williams Students Recognized in Statewide
"Picturing 
Econ" Art Competition

Scarlett Best (5th grade) and Jacob Bogaards (4th grade) from Williams Elementary were among 12 students across Arkansas selected as winners in the Picturing Econ Art Competition. Their artwork, which illustrates economic concepts, will be featured on the Economics Arkansas website and social media. Congratulations to these talented students!

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Makes Generous 
Donation to Central High's Reading Club

The Southwestern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. donated $5,000 to Central High School’s Reading Club. During the donation event, students were excited to receive one of the books purchased by the donation and written by Little Rock Nine member Elizabeth Eckford.  Ms. Eckford was on hand for the presentation. A special shoutout to the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho and Ms. Eckford for making this an extra special event at LRCH!

Central High Yearbook Earns Spot in 
Walsworth Gallery of Excellence

The 2025 Little Rock Central High School yearbook selected for the prestigious Walsworth Gallery of Excellence! This recognition highlights the exceptional creativity, dedication, and journalistic skill of the students and advisers who brought the yearbook to life. As part of the Gallery of Excellence, Central's yearbook will serve as an inspiration for schools nationwide. Congratulations to the talented team behind this outstanding achievement!

Southwest High Scholars Earn
Phlebotomy Certifications

Students from the Baptist Health Academy of Medical Sciences at Little Rock Southwest High have reached a major milestone! They received their official certifications in Phlebotomy, showcasing their dedication to the medical field. Congratulations to these scholars on their achievement!

Hall-West High Quiz Bowl Team Shines at the Down Home Derby

Hall-West High School's Quiz Bowl team delivered an outstanding performance at The Down Home Derby. Joshua Morehart earned All-Team honors, Axis McWilliams was named All-Tournament MVP with a 16-question average, and Ian Ratcliff’s crucial 90 points helped secure a second-place finish. Great job, students!

McDermott Elementary Celebrates Black History Month with Special Guest

McDermott Elementary wrapped up Black History Month with a powerful program highlighting history, resilience, and achievement. Students, staff, and families gathered for the event, which featured a special appearance by Ms. Elizabeth Eckford of the Little Rock Nine. Her presence made the celebration even more meaningful as students learned about the impact of the Civil Rights Movement.

Carver and Washington Communities 
Participate in the SoMardi Gras Parade

Carver and Washington students, families, and staff came together for a lively weekend at the SoMardi Gras Parade! They walked in the parade and hosted a booth to share information about the new Carver-Washington Magnet School opening next year. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success!

Gibbs International Magnet didn’t let the rain dampen their Mardi Gras spirit! With potential storms in the forecast, students celebrated a day early with beads, dancing, and delicious king cake from Community Bakery. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

UA-Pulaski Tech to Host Women's History Month Panel Discussion Featuring Dr. Shana Loring

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College will host a panel discussion on Tuesday, March 18 at 11 a.m. in the CHARTS Theater. The event, moderated by Dr. Ana Hunt, will explore the theme "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." Panelists include LRSD's own Dr. Shana Loring. Make plans to attend!

Students across LRSD’s elementary and early childhood schools embraced the magic of reading during Read Across America! With interactive activities and plenty of great books, young learners had a fun-filled celebration of literacy.

at LRSD Annual Artistry in the Rock

Artistry in the Rock 2025 is almost here! Join us March 17-20 at the Arkansas State Fair – Hall of Industry for student performances, an art gallery, and special evening events. Enjoy daily showcases from 10 AM to 1 PM, with Opening Night on March 17 at 6 PM and an Art Auction on March 19 to support senior scholarships. New Date Announced for the 2025 
Black Male Educator Summit - Register NOW!

Due to inclement weather this week, the 2025 Black Male Educator Summit is rescheduled to March 14-15 at Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy. The theme continues: “Shop Talk: Building Community Through Cutting Edge Conversations,” highlighting opportunities for collaboration, growth, and impactful dialogue. Serious Ballers at Central Arkansas Elementary Basketball League Tournament

In the spirit of friendly competition and fun, the Central Arkansas Basketball Elementary League tournament brought out great talent, including during Saturday's championship game. It was Gibbs versus Roberts.  Gibbs took home the title after some serious playoff games.  Congratulations to Gibbs, Roberts, and the rest of the LRSD teams who demonstrated great sportsmanship, athleticism, and team spirit throughout the series.  Kudos to Mr. Darian Smith and volunteers who organize the tournament each year.  They're already thinking about how to take it to the next level for next year's 20th anniversary! 

Parent and Family Engagement Event
A Huge Success

Families enjoyed a mini farmers market, free haircuts, and other resources during last weekend's Parent and Family Engagement event hosted by LRSD.  Kaye Rainey and Beatriz Varela did an outstanding job organizing the event.  See the District's Facebook page for a tasty, healthy recipe served during the event by partners from the U of A  Division of Agriculture.

We're taking our ticket game to the next level! LRSD is teaming up with GoFan to provide a seamless, paperless experience at all athletic events. Fans can now purchase tickets online or on their phone by visiting GoFan.co, searching for their school, and selecting the event. Paper tickets will no longer be available for purchase at the events.
