Wakefield Elementary and Hall-West High School of Innovation honored by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas for outstanding student growth on the ATLAS exams. These schools earned the prestigious Beating the Odds recognition, highlighting their success in helping students achieve high academic growth despite serving many students participating in Free and Reduced Lunch programs. These distinctions are based on 2024 content growth scores from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, measuring how much students improved compared to their peers statewide. Congratulations to Wakefield Elementary and Hall-West High on this well-earned recognition!
AGATE Recognition Awards
Mrs. Charlotte Cook-Bomar of Watson Elementary and Mrs. Krystal Williams of Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy have received the AGATE Educator Recognition Award. Mrs. Cook-Bomar also received the Curriculum Award for outstanding work in gifted education. LRSD celebrates these incredible educators for dedication to supporting and inspiring GT students!
"Picturing Econ" Art Competition
Scarlett Best (5th grade) and Jacob Bogaards (4th grade) from Williams Elementary were among 12 students across Arkansas selected as winners in the Picturing Econ Art Competition. Their artwork, which illustrates economic concepts, will be featured on the Economics Arkansas website and social media. Congratulations to these talented students!

The Southwestern Region of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. donated $5,000 to Central High School’s Reading Club. During the donation event, students were excited to receive one of the books purchased by the donation and written by Little Rock Nine member Elizabeth Eckford. Ms. Eckford was on hand for the presentation. A special shoutout to the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho and Ms. Eckford for making this an extra special event at LRCH!

Phlebotomy Certifications
Students from the Baptist Health Academy of Medical Sciences at Little Rock Southwest High have reached a major milestone! They received their official certifications in Phlebotomy, showcasing their dedication to the medical field. Congratulations to these scholars on their achievement!
Hall-West High School's Quiz Bowl team delivered an outstanding performance at The Down Home Derby. Joshua Morehart earned All-Team honors, Axis McWilliams was named All-Tournament MVP with a 16-question average, and Ian Ratcliff’s crucial 90 points helped secure a second-place finish. Great job, students!
McDermott Elementary wrapped up Black History Month with a powerful program highlighting history, resilience, and achievement. Students, staff, and families gathered for the event, which featured a special appearance by Ms. Elizabeth Eckford of the Little Rock Nine. Her presence made the celebration even more meaningful as students learned about the impact of the Civil Rights Movement.
Carver and Washington students, families, and staff came together for a lively weekend at the SoMardi Gras Parade! They walked in the parade and hosted a booth to share information about the new Carver-Washington Magnet School opening next year. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success!

The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.
