Bryan Rosas, a senior at Southwest High School, is proving the power of hard work and determination. At 18, he balances school with a weekend night shift at Lexicon, where his welding skills have already earned him a scholarship for top performance on their welding simulator. Recently, Bryan achieved his Class B welder certification, a significant milestone. After graduation, he plans to continue working at Lexicon while advancing his skills at Pulaski Tech.
LRSD is teaming up with UAMS to launch the Little Rock Violence Intervention and Safety Innovative Outreach Network (LR VISION), funded by a $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. This program will introduce advanced safety measures like behavioral threat assessments, campus digital mapping, and trauma-informed training for staff. With support from community partners, LR VISION aims to continue creating safe and supportive environments for students and staff.

Watson Elementary students participated in a Reading Challenge during November and December to inspire a love for reading. McDermott Elementary and City Year Little Rock invite the community to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by donating blood at their Mobile Blood Drive, hosted by Our Blood Institute. The event happens on Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McDermott Elementary. Your donation is especially vital due to the recent winter weather’s impact on blood supplies. The Little Rock School District offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program, allowing students to take college-level courses in high school. With 38 courses across 20 subjects, students can earn college credit by scoring 3 or higher on the national AP exams. AP classes not only provide academic challenges but also enhance college applications.
