LRSD Hosted a Public Reception Honoring Its Board Members
LRSD hosted a drop-in reception to honor Board members. In addition, the public had an opportunity to meet new member Joyce Wesley and say farewell to Jeff Wood. Wesley replaces Wood who recently resigned. We appreciate our Board members who serve long hours without pay - all for the sake of supporting LRSD students.

LRSD Spirit Fest Recap
Last week, LRSD invited you all to its FREE, district-wide fair to learn about its educational offerings and to visit with individual schools, departments, and district partners about exciting opportunities we have available for your student(s) and wow did you all come out! Attendees enjoyed prizes with our biggest prize being a 55" Roku TV donated by First Student Transportation, a petting zoo, bounce house, food trucks face painting and so much more. They also got a chance to dunk Moose (Alice 107.7), Senator Clarke Tucker, and former Razorback Allie Freeman. Thank you so much to everyone who came out and volunteered to make this event a success.

Roberts Elementary EAST Students Started Their First Online Training
Roberts Elementary 5th graders Grant Fairris and Beau Holbert started EAST online training and we've been told they are excited about podcasting. Thanks to the EAST Initiative, they learned to podcast using Garageband & Audacity and look forward to working with their principal, Mr. Helmick, on a student lead school podcast!
LRSW Renaissance Team Sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk & Balloon Release
On Friday, October 21, the Little Rock Southwest Magnet High School (LRSW) Renaissance Team (Renny Kidz) sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Balloon Release. Teachers Ms. Tashenia McMillan and Ms. Rebecca Simpson were honored as Breast Cancer Survivors and wore sashes specially made for the occasion. Ms. Tranice Johnson worked with the Renny Kidz to create and print "Fight Like a Gryphon" tee-shirts with a breast cancer ribbon the team members and the LRSW staff that supports them wore.
Hundreds of pink and white balloons were blown up before the Walk which began in front of the Auditorium. Renny Kidz carried them in bundles during the Walk. Participants wrote the names of Breast Cancer survivors on pink ribbons, as well as the names of those currently battling or who have died from it. Once all arrived at the Gryphon football field 50-yard line, each participant received a balloon for the release. Ms. Kristina Peterson led the balloon release, as well as the recognition of Ms. McMillan and Ms. Simpson.
Mr. Roger Robinson and his students recorded and took the picture at the event. Other groups who participated were the LRSW Women's Basketball Team, the Cheerleaders, the Gems, Senior Class Officers, and numerous scholars and staff. An SRO led the Walk in his patrol car. It truly was a Great Day to Be A Gryphon!
LRSD Students District-Wide Celebrate Red Ribbon Week With a Rally
A Red Ribbon Rally brought hundreds of LRSD students together at the River Market to amplify the message of being drug-free. Students created signs and banners to display at the annual event held at the First Security Amphitheater.

At the World Cheese Dip Championship (“WCDC”), professional and amateur contestants vie for the titles of Big Dipper-Professional and Big Dipper-Amateur, chosen by a panel of judges through blind tastings. People’s Choice Champions in both Professional and Amateur divisions are determined by festival attendees who will vote for their favorites. Prizes include monetary awards, WCDC merchandise, and trophies.

Six Bridges Book Festival

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) presents the nineteenth annual Six Bridges Book Festival, October 20–30. Named for the six bridges that connect the downtowns in Little Rock and North Little Rock, the Festival bridges communities and brings people together. CALS actively solicits input from a variety of demographic groups to offer a diverse, inclusive, and widely appealing festival.
The 11-day event celebrates reading, literacy, stories, and wordsmithing. Scores of nationally known authors converge on the city to offer panels on a wide variety of topics, from cooking demonstrations to award-winning comedy. Authors also venture out into the community for efforts such as Writers in the Schools (WITS), bringing the joy of writing to hundreds of students in central Arkansas.
