Back-to-School Supply Drive Hosted by United Way
This past
summer Mr. Marty Burton and Ms. Angela Smith attended the Center for Civic
Education’s Presidential Academy along with two ACC students, Acacia Owens and
Vyctoria Washington. The Academy was held at Goucher College in
Baltimore, Maryland July 7-20, 2019. They met educators and students from
all over the U.S.
Congratulations to Dr. Sadie Mitchell, recently retired, who now also has the distinction of having a day declared in her honor!

LRSD JAG Specialists Recognized
In Orlando, FL
Little Rock School District
teachers were honored for their commitment and hard work at the 36th National
JAG Training Seminar held in Orlando, Florida, July 8-12, 2019. Gladys
Godley from Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School and Mary Perkins-Jacobs
from J. A. Fair Magnet High School were honored as two of Arkansas’ Outstanding
JAG Specialists for the 2018--2019 school year. The Outstanding JAG Specialist
Award is presented by the National Jobs for America’s
Graduates, Inc. which recognizes specialists across the U.S. for success in
fully implementing the JAG Model and achieving extraordinary outcomes for JAG
program participants.
Stephanie K’Nuckles, from McClellan High School, Mary Hines from Hall High School along with Jacobs, and Godley received awards for achieving the “5 of 5” National Performance Standards Award for the Class of 2019. (Mary Hines, Not Pictured) These performance outcomes were based on complete and accurate documentation using the Electronic National Data Management System.
The JAG Model Programs deliver a unique set of services to targeted youth in high school, including 12 months of post-graduation follow-up services that will result in the graduate pursuing a post-secondary education and/or entering the workforce in a quality job leading to a career.

ACC Attends Presidential Academy
This past
summer Mr. Marty Burton and Ms. Angela Smith attended the Center for Civic
Education’s Presidential Academy along with two ACC students, Acacia Owens and
Vyctoria Washington. The Academy was held at Goucher College in
Baltimore, Maryland July 7-20, 2019. They met educators and students from
all over the U.S.
Burton and
Smith had discussions with their peers on historical events within the United
States Government. The Academy took the team on four educational field
trips to Mt. Vernon, Gettysburg, and two in Washington DC. A couple of their
favorite places - the new African American Museum and the Library of Congress!
Bright Futures provides a
path for communities to engage everyone in a collective movement to develop
relationships and channel resources supporting education and enabling children
to achieve success. Bright Futures Little Rock works within the Little
Rock School District to connect student needs with existing community
resources. The Bright Futures model brings together businesses, human
service agencies, faith-based organizations, and parent groups and partners
them with schools in a way that helps them to quickly and efficiently meet
students’ basic needs – often within 24 hours. Bright Futures will also assist students that have
chronic absenteeism by providing wrap around services to help improve
attendance. This enables students and teachers to focus on
education and achieving success.
Bright Futures Little Rock works to create an
environment where education is valued and responsibility for student success is
shared. Bright Futures operates under the belief that when a community invests
its time, talent, and treasure into its schools, students are more likely to
stay in school through graduation, have a higher degree of self-worth and
confidence, and set and reach goals for the future. In turn, these students
grow up to be better neighbors, quality employees, and leaders who impact their
communities.
