Central High Wrestlers and Coach Earn Statewide Honors

Little Rock Central High School’s wrestling program is celebrating major statewide recognition! Laila Jordan and Markita Harper were named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s AR Preps Wrestling Team, which honors the top wrestlers across all classifications in Arkansas. Laila Jordan was also named Female Wrestler of the Year, and Central’s coach, Aaron Butler, received the title of AR Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year. Congratulations to these outstanding athletes and their coach on this incredible achievement!

Journalism Students Take Home Awards from Across the State

Students from Little Rock Central High School’s journalism program earned top honors at the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association State Convention held April 5 at Bryant High School. Representing all three of Central’s award-winning student publications—The Tiger newspaper, Labyrinth literary magazine, and The Pix yearbook—students took home dozens of awards for writing, photography, design, and multimedia storytelling. Several entries were named “Best of ASPA,” and the newspaper, also swept the Arkansas Press Women contests. Congratulations to all the students and advisers for their outstanding achievements!

PHMS Students Advance to Nationals After 
Strong FBLA Conference Performance

Pulaski Heights Middle School had an outstanding showing at the Arkansas Middle Level FBLA State Leadership Conference. All competing teams placed in the top 10, with several advancing to Nationals. PHMS was also recognized as the largest local chapter in the state, and 24 students earned LEAD award certificates. Congratulations to our Panthers on their hard work and success!

Parkview Choir Hits High Notes at State Festival

Parkview High’s choir students represented their school with pride at the Arkansas State Choral Festival on at the University of Central Arkansas. The Advanced Treble Chorus, Lab Singers, and Madrigals received Superior Division I ratings and earned the coveted Sweepstakes award, while the Tenor/Bass Chorus received an Excellent Division II rating. A special shoutout to senior Aniya Foster, who was awarded the Gary & Myra Morris Choral Excellence Scholarship after earning a spot in the All-State Choir all four years. Way to go! 

Lacey Lions Claim Championship Title in Inaugural Soccer Season

The Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy Lions made history by winning the championship in their very first soccer season. With a hard-fought 2-1 victory, the team remained undefeated and showed incredible teamwork, determination, and school pride. Congratulations to the Lions on an unforgettable season!

Four LRSD Students to be Honored at 
2025 Delta Presents Awards

The Little Rock School District is proud to announce that four outstanding students will be recognized at the upcoming Delta Presents Awards. Hosted by the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., this event celebrates academic excellence and leadership. Congratulations to Omarai Williams, Nicolas Collier, Cohen Hughes (Southwest High), and Collin Sproles (Central High) on this well-deserved honor!

LRSD Seniors Step Into Their Futures at Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day

LRSD seniors from Central, Southwest, Hall, Parkview, and Metro took a major step toward their futures during the Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day at Arkansas Virtual Academy. This hands-on hiring event connected students with top employers like Union Pacific, Baptist Health, and Central Arkansas Water. With resumes in hand and confidence in tow, our students showcased their professionalism and readiness for life after graduation.

LRSD Staff Honored with 2025 MLK Service in Education Awards

Several LRSD educators and support staff were honored at the State Board of Education meeting as recipients of the 2025 MLK Service in Education Awards. Presented by the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, these awards recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership, dedication, and service in their schools and communities. Honorees were selected based on community nominations and reflect Dr. King’s vision of servant leadership and educational excellence.

Career Inspiration Takes Center Stage at LRSD Middle Schools

Over 70 professionals from across Central Arkansas visited all LRSD middle schools as part of the Career Speaker Series, hosted by the LRSD CTE Department in partnership with Junior Achievement of Arkansas. Eighth-grade students had the opportunity to explore future careers, gain real-world insights, and hear inspiring stories directly from industry leaders. Special thanks to the incredible volunteers for helping to prepare our students to be future-ready!

Hamilton School Maintains Heart Safe Certification 
with Successful Code Adam Drill

Hamilton School recently completed a full-scale Code Adam Drill with the support of the Little Rock Fire Department, Police Department, and MEMS to maintain its status as an Arkansas Heart Safe School. The drill, which takes place every two years, ensures the school’s Cardiac Emergency Response Team is prepared to respond quickly to any cardiac event. With CPR-certified staff ready at a moment’s notice, Hamilton continues to prioritize the health and safety of its students and staff.

Young Entrepreneurs Featured at LRSD Youth Business Expo

This morning, the Little Rock School District hosted the Youth Business Entrepreneurial Expo at LR Central High School's Eddie Boone-Oliver Fitzpatrick Fieldhouse. Students showcased their creativity and innovation, marketing and selling products they've designed and created. The event highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of our young minds, offering them a platform to shine and connect with the community.

LRSD Students Put Their Talents to the 
Test at the Jolt Cyber Challenge

LRSD students from Metro Career Tech and Pinnacle View Middle School also had their talent on display at the Jolt Cyber Challenge. Competing against over 100 professionals and college students, Central High’s team earned an Honorable Mention for their impressive performance in the physical challenges, while PVMS 8th grader Anay Pandit was recognized as “Most Likely to Fulfill the CEO’s Vision.”

Men of Mabelvale Build Bonds with Local 
Seniors During Special Visit

The Men of Mabelvale Gentlemen’s Club from Mabelvale Middle School recently visited Colonel Glenn Nursing and Rehab Center for a day of connection and learning. Guided by teachers, students engaged with residents through games, conversations, and birthday celebrations. The visit also included career insights from staff, encouraging students to think about their futures and the steps to success.

Reading in the Rock: Empowering LRSD Students 
Through The Joy of Books

Every child deserves access to books that spark imagination and inspire a lifelong love of reading. That’s the focus of the Reading in the Rock initiative, combined with improving literacy rates - in partnership with the City of Little Rock. The goal is to provide elementary students with books over spring break and into the summer, helping to build home libraries and prevent the summer slide. The community is encouraged to help us provide more books by making a financial donation. No amount is too small—every contribution helps put books in the hands of our students. Fudge Earns State Choral Director Distinction
 Ms. Christy Fudge, choral director at Little Rock Central High School, adds another distinction to her growing list of accolades.  She was just named Arkansas Distinguished Director of the Year by the Arkansas Choral Directors Association. She received this prestigious statewide honor during the Arkansas All-State Clinic and Concert held at Russellville High School on Tuesday night. Way to go, Ms. Fudge!

Spirit of Excellence Award

Congratulations to Shaneika Lewis-Williams, a nurse practitioner with Arkansas Children’s, for receiving the 2025 Mary Miller Spirit of Excellence Award! She provides outstanding care at the Chicot and Stephens school-based health clinics. Ms. Shaneika is known for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to LRSD students and families. We are proud to celebrate her well-deserved recognition!

Named Disney Dreamers for 2025!

Colin Sproles and Cameryn Sproles from Central were named Disney Dreamers for 2025. Colin was even named Dreamer of the Year by his peers and judges. As part of this prestigious honor, they received a special trip back to Walt Disney World, courtesy of Delta Airlines, and a Disney Cruise Line voyage, celebrating his leadership, inspiration, and relentless pursuit of his dreams.  Read more in the link below:

These individuals have demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and dedication to students and their communities, reflecting Dr. King’s enduring legacy of servant leadership.

LR Central Senior Named
2025 Arkansas Times Academic All-Star

Congratulations to Little Rock Central High School senior Yahya Younus for being named to the 2025 Arkansas Times Academic All-Star Team! Yahya is a top student, a published researcher, and the founder of two innovative clubs at Central. He’s also earned a spot in the prestigious Life Sciences & Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania. We’re proud of Yahya’s accomplishments and excited to see what his future holds!

J.A. Fair Students Explore
New Orleans Over Spring Break

Students from J.A. Fair K-8 Preparatory School enjoyed an exciting Spring Break trip to New Orleans! Highlights included visiting the Audubon Zoo, touring Mardi Gras World to see parade floats up close, and exploring local colleges and universities. The trip was a fun and educational experience they won’t forget!

Gibbs Goes Global: A Cultural Adventure in Canada!

This spring break, Gibbs Magnet School took learning to new heights—literally! Ms. Agnew led a group of 5th-grade students, families, and staff on the first-ever Spring Cultural Immersion Trip to Quebec and Montreal, Canada. From exploring Old Quebec City in sub-zero temperatures to visiting iconic landmarks like Montmorency Falls and the Montreal Biodome, students had unforgettable experiences while practicing their French and engaging with the local culture.

Pinnacle View Middle School Teacher 
Earns Doctorate in Educational Leadership

Congratulations to Dr. Tianka R. Sheard Mitchell of Pinnacle View Middle School for earning her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. Dr. Sheard Mitchell has served LRSD students for more than 25 years and continues to make a lasting impact through her dedication and leadership.

LRCH Students Sweep Top 3 Spots
at Arkansas State Brain Bee

Little Rock Central High School students made an impressive showing at the 2025 Arkansas State Brain Bee, taking home the top three spots! Congratulations to Sohan Jayappa, Srinitya Bhrugubanda, and Maggie Qin for their outstanding achievement. This year’s event was the first in-person competition since 2020, and our students rose to the challenge. Sohan Jayappa will go on to represent Arkansas at the USA Brain Bee Championship in May. Go Tigers!

Speaking of Central... One Student was Featured in the Learn Fresh Newsletter for STEM Achievements

Also from Central, Tony Hayar was recently featured in the Learn Fresh newsletter for his outstanding accomplishments in STEM! Tony won first place in the Engineering Materials category at Central’s Science Fair with his compact drip-irrigation system. A dedicated NBA Math Hoops alumnus, he is also a two-time Arkansas regional champion and competed in the 2023 Global Championship in New York City. Congratulations, Tony!

LR Hall-West High School Students Earn Phlebotomy Certification

Students in the Medical Interventions program at LR Hall-West High School of Innovation have officially earned their Phlebotomy Certification. This hands-on achievement highlights the strength of LRSD’s Career & Technical Education programs and the dedication of both students and staff. Special thanks to Shameka Montgomery, Xerlotta Jones, Lawanna Harris, and Taliah Ragland, as well as Mr. Marvin Burton,  for supporting these future healthcare professionals.

for Literacy Exchange

Just before spring break, the Little Rock School District had the privilege of hosting distinguished guests from the City of Little Rock Sister Cities Commission. Author Richard O’Neill and Wendy Elliott, Chief Executive of the National Centre for Children’s Books, visited Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School, Fulbright Elementary, and Dr. Marian G. Students Celebrate Poetry Month with Special 
Event at the Clinton Center

Third and fourth-grade students from Chicot and Western Hills Elementary Schools joined a Poetry Month celebration hosted by the Clinton Foundation and Celebrate Maya. The event featured a special reading of Maya Angelou Finds Her Voice by authors Connie and Peter Roop, with illustrator Noa Denmon. Students also participated in an interactive writing workshop and received signed copies of the book to take home.

Reading in the Rock: Empowering LRSD Students 
Through The Joy of Books

Every child deserves access to books that spark imagination and inspire a lifelong love of reading. That’s the focus of the Reading in the Rock initiative, combined with improving literacy rates - in partnership with the City of Little Rock. The goal is to provide elementary students with books over spring break and into the summer, helping to build home libraries and prevent the summer slide. The community is encouraged to help us provide more books by making a financial donation. No amount is too small—every contribution helps put books in the hands of our students. Metro Hosts Inaugural Capture the Flag Cybersecurity Challenge

Metro Career Tech Center recently hosted its first Capture the Flag Cybersecurity Challenge, bringing together students from Central, Parkview, and Southwest high schools. The event, organized by student leaders in the Networking & Cybersecurity Pathway, focused on skill-building, problem-solving, and teamwork. Congratulations to the winning teams and all participants for making the event a great success! The district looks forward to expanding this competition in the future and continuing to inspire students in cybersecurity.
