Little Rock School District Secures 
Community Collaboration Grant

The Little Rock School District has been awarded a grant as part of the 2025 Community Collaboration Challenge, supported by the Leon Lowenstein Foundation. This grant will foster collaboration between schools, families, local organizations, and other stakeholders to provide holistic student support. Funds will help address critical needs such as tutoring, mentoring, and wrap-around services to reduce chronic absenteeism. LRSD is proud to join 22 other communities nationwide in this impactful initiative.

12 LRSD Students Accepted into 
Licensed Practical Nursing Program

Twelve LRSD high school students have been accepted into the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program through Metropolitan Career Technical Center and Baptist Health College Little Rock. This opportunity sets them on a path toward rewarding careers in healthcare. Congratulations to these students!

Pinnacle View Middle School Students Also Exploring Careers in Health Services

Eighth Grade Career Development students at Pinnacle View Middle School gained hands-on experience in the Health Services Career Cluster. Using vital signs kits, they practiced taking blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen levels, learning essential healthcare skills. The activity sparked curiosity as students explored various career paths in the field. It was an inspiring glimpse into how they can make a difference in people’s lives through healthcare.

Roberts Elementary Student Named EAST Conference Ambassador

Ryan Ahmed, a student in the EAST Program at Roberts Elementary, has been selected as an ambassador for this year’s EAST Conference Leadership Team. This role highlights Ryan’s dedication, leadership, and hard work. As an ambassador, he will collaborate with peers from across the state to make a meaningful impact during the conference. Congratulations to Ryan on this exciting opportunity!

800 LRSD Students Receive Winter Coats 
Through Operation Warm

Entergy Arkansas and IAFF Local 34 continued their partnership with Operation Warm, providing 800 new coats to students at Western Hills Elementary, Carver STEAM Magnet, and Romine Early Childhood Center. For 10 years, this initiative has supported LRSD students, ensuring they stay warm during the winter months. With a $10,000 grant from Entergy and contributions from IAFF members, this program has served nearly 6,000 students since 2015. LRSD is grateful for these community partnerships that make a lasting impact on our students' lives.

Do You Know Where Your Water Comes From
Ask a Fulbright Student - They Know!

Students at Fulbright Elementary visited the Central Arkansas Water plant as part of their chemical reactions study. They visited the labs where the employees conduct tests for water safety and got to see how our water is cleaned. Students now understand how important the jobs of the water plant employees are and have new career interests!

LRSD Staff Recognized for 
Outstanding Customer Service

At last night's LRSD Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright celebrated staff members who received recognition for exceptional customer service from a secret shopper. Christy Hawthorne from Mabelvale Middle School and Danica Carolina from Little Rock Southwest Magnet High School were specifically acknowledged. Their dedication to providing excellent service contributes greatly to the positive experience for students, families, and staff. Congratulations!

Hall-West Students Check Out Science Career Options with Visit to Entergy's Nuclear One Plant

Earlier this month, Hall-West High School 10th graders visited Entergy’s Nuclear One Plant in Russellville. The tour, part of the Academies of Central Arkansas and LRSD CTE Department, gave students a unique look at Arkansas' only nuclear power facility. Students participated in simulations, toured training stations, and gained valuable insights into the role of nuclear energy in the state. This hands-on experience helps prepare students for future careers in the energy industry.

Building Bright Futures: Rockefeller Pre-K Students Explore the Joy of Reading

At Rockefeller Early Childhood Center, 2-year-olds in Ms. Shiekenna Facen and Ms. Harriett Redmon’s classroom are discovering the magic of reading. Through selecting books to share with teachers and friends, they’re building vocabulary and sparking their imaginations. Parkview Patriots Win Third 
Consecutive State Championship

The Parkview Patriots made history with a commanding 61-21 victory over Farmington to secure their third straight State Championship. Their relentless hard work, teamwork, and dedication continue to make the Little Rock School District proud. This incredible achievement highlights the excellence of Parkview’s athletes both on and off the field. Congratulations to the Patriots on another unforgettable season!

LRSD Students Represent at JAG National Leadership Conference

Little Rock Southwest High School’s Jazmyn Bee and Zion McDaniel, along with Little Rock Central High School’s Bailey Carroll, proudly represented LRSD at the JAG National Student Leadership Conferences in Washington, D.C. They explored historic landmarks such as Howard University, the National Museum of African American History, and Arlington Cemetery while participating in leadership development sessions. Jazmyn Bee had the honor of asking Miss America a question during her presentation, and Bailey Carroll gained valuable skills like networking and table etiquette. These impactful experiences, made possible by their JAG Specialists, will continue to inspire their growth as leaders.

Watson Elementary's Gifted and Talented Program Secures $8,000 Grant for Stem Innovation

Watson Elementary’s Gifted and Talented program has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Rebsamen Fund. This generous funding will launch the Drone Legends program, immersing students in hands-on STEM learning through drone operation, flight mechanics, and real-world technology and environmental science applications. Special thanks to Charlotte Cook-Bomar for her dedication and vision in securing this transformative opportunity for Watson’s students!

LRSD Community Schools Recognized at UAMS Community Partner Celebration

The Little Rock School District's Community Schools program was honored at the UAMS Translational Research Institute's 9th Annual Community Partner Celebration at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. Nominated for the Chancellor’s Community Engaged Research Partner of the Year Award, Community Schools McDermott, Stephens, Washington, and Brady Elementary were celebrated for their involvement in the Green School Yards Study. This initiative, led by the UAMS College of Public Health, promotes increased physical activity and enhanced school experiences for children. LRSD is proud of this impactful partnership and grateful for the recognition!

Malin Reed Opitz Outdoor Classroom



Jefferson Elementary celebrated the opening of the Malin Reed Opitz Outdoor Classroom with a heartfelt ribbon-cutting ceremony. This special space honors the memory of Malin Reed Opitz, a beloved student who passed away in January 2023. The outdoor classroom will serve as a hub for physical education, shaded recess, school events, and innovative outdoor learning experiences, ensuring her legacy lives on through joy and education.

LRSD Students Named Y.E.S. Top 25 Finalists

Congratulations to Forest Park Elementary, Pulaski Heights Middle, and Terry Elementary for being named Top 25 Finalists in the 2024-25 Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase (Y.E.S.) competition! This prestigious program introduces 5th-8th graders to business and entrepreneurship while fostering creativity and teamwork. Winners earn cash prizes and bring home trophies for their schools. The Grinch paid a visit to Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy, causing some holiday mischief! He tried to steal the Christmas tree and even take over the office. But in the end, his antics were no match for the Lacey Lions' holiday spirit—he fell asleep on the job and was "fired" on the spot! It’s safe to say nothing can stop their festive cheer!

Otter Creek Ukulele Band Makes Parade Debut in Southwest Little Rock Christmas Parade

The Otter Creek Elementary Ukulele Band made their parade debut at the Southwest Little Rock Christmas Parade over the weekend. This was their first time marching, and they did an outstanding job spreading holiday cheer with their musical performance!

Jingle Jam Band & Dance Showcase to be Held Tonight at Hall-West High School

The Jingle Jam Band & Dance Showcase is happening tonight at 6 p.m. at Hall-West High School! The event will feature a middle school band battle, a thrilling performance by Parkview and Southwest high schools, drill team routines, and an exceptional mass band performance. It’s the first collaborative event of its kind in Little Rock, so don’t miss out on an unforgettable night of music and celebration!

The Charles Ripley Holiday Basketball Showcase Returns to Gryphon Arena This Weekend

The Charles Ripley Holiday Basketball Showcase is back at Gryphon Arena this weekend, featuring exciting basketball action. With 10 games on the schedule, this annual event will support the LRSD Athletic Foundation, which provides athletic opportunities for 6th-grade students. The Little Rock Zoo is collecting old holiday lights starting November 1, 2024, as part of a recycling program that helps keep copper wire out of landfills. Donated lights and extension cords will also support African lion conservation. Donations will be accepted through January 31, 2025, so gather your old lights and give back this holiday season!
